Hello Beoenthusiasts!

It appears that I've caught a serious case of the Beovirus, as I went from owning zero B&O pieces to four over the span of three months. My latest project is resurrecting a Beocord 5000 type 4716, which arrived in decrepit condition. I managed to get it half working, but it still needs quite a bit of work before I'm satisfied. Here I have a few questions for you all:

  1. The belts which are currently on the Beocord are obviously old, but they hold... for now. Enough for me to test the device's functions. Nevertheless, the belts do need to be replaced. I found a set of the correct belts (for type 4716) on German eBay, but the seller doesn't offer shipping to my location. So, I found another listing for a belt set for type 4705, not 4716. Is the belt set for type 4705 compatible with type 4716? If not, where else may I be able to find the correct belt set?
  2. Currently, the Beocord is able to play tapes, although only for a few seconds before it begins eating the tape. I suspect this issue is a result of the take-up pinch roller being unable to rotate easily. In comparison, the supply pinch roller rotates with far less resistance. It seems that I need to lubricate this part. The service manual states to lubricate the bearing shafts with "3984013 Turbin oil 30." I can't find any information about this lubricant online. Where can I purchase "3984013 Turbin oil 30?"
  3. A small portion of the plexiglass panel which goes over the indicator lights was broken off during shipping. Would applying dichloromethane (such as this product) using a syringe while holding the two pieces together be an appropriate way to repair the panel?
Sorry for all the noob questions. This is the first time I've ever seen the inside of a cassette deck. Any ideas or guidance would be much appreciated!

Anyone? Would be a shame to have to abandon this project.

I can supply correct belts:

Clean and reinfuse the sinter bearings.
I use Mobil Velocite 6 for all these vacuum impregnation jobs.

Your first cassette deck repair and you picked the Beocord 5000! And you got it half working - you are clearly a genius! My old repair shop would do any of my B&O but drew the line at the 5000! This is of course the one true B&O cassette player - engineered as was the case in this era, to be the ultimate tape deck. And when it works, it is really good and massively ahead of its time. At least you have the 4716 rather than the 4706 which was even more complex and worked even less well - just. You have my utmost respect in doing this and I look forward to seeing the end result.

Craig, did you get the one I gave you working?

Rudy restored a 4716 back in 2015 on the Beolover Blog. He even has a video or two of it.  As Peter said, it is not the cassette deck project I would want to start out on. At the same time....you have to start somewhere :-).  I hope to create another Beolover Blog post of my own Beocord 5000 that I purchased new back in 1977 but I haven't been inspired enough to dive into it yet.

Please post some good before and after photos as you work through yours. It helps us and it will help you as more sets of eyes can help spot problems.

Yes I did.....I had to have the pinch rollers renovated by a guy in the US.....but it is now in working order and doesn't chew tapes anymore, I have to say I don't use it awfully much.

I have two and they both work, and have never chewed any tapes. But they aren’t used, just gathering dust in my collection!

Even my Beocord 9000 hasn’t played anything for quite a while. But it looks good next to the fantastic BM8000.
