Hi,

i am currently working on a Beocenter 9500 and i am stuck at the CD part.

After (and before) replacing the most common capacitors the CD won´t run.

And it seems to be something different, as the standard faulty behaviour is that the motor spins, the lens can´t focus and after two turns it stops turning.

In this case its different - the motor does not start at all.

Is there any experience or help available how to proceed? I have a spare Beocenter 9000, but unfortunately the CD mechanism is totally different, so i can´t swap.

Bes regards

Which type (brand etc.) of capacitor did you fit for C2103 (the blue Philips axial)?

Nothing special.

during my last repairs ,I had several 9500 before, I did not see any difference in the behavior dependent on the type or manufacturer.

but as said, the motor won’t even start, so I think this capacitor wasn’t even the issue.

how could I check if the motor itself is the problem?

besf regards and thank you for your help

We've seen this situation countless times.
You can read more here:

Troubleshooting Philips CDM4/24 Laser in BeoCenter 9000 - (beoworld.org)

and several other threads (search for C2103).

I would fit the correct type of capacitor before anything else.
A kit is available from Beoparts-shop.

Not THE original.
An unused one!

So, I exchanged the capacitor with a Philips (new).

no change.

but what I recognized now, is that the cd is not a cdm4/33.

instead it’s a cdm4/57 - don’t know why.

if I am not wrong this is not the right one, correct?

could it just be the wrong CD player which somebody has installed?

best regards

Any chance of a photo of your servo board as it is now?

Burned resistor in the motor drive circuit.

Perhaps because of a shorted driver transistor.

I would replace both transistors (note their type and don't trust the manual, most have a serious typo there) and both resistors (10 Ohm fusible if I remember correctly).

Wooooow!

you can see that from the picture? Impressive.

as I am a total non electronic guy - just can solder a little bit - would you mind showing me the parts?

Actually not that difficult to spot.
Between transistors 6124 and 6125 and the black connector.

New part here.

Hi Martin,

thanks a lot !!!!

Now i am really curious, if i can make this thing run again. Will take a look at the transistors and then order the new parts.

Great forum - great experts Thumbs Up

So,

i exchanged the 10ohm resistor, 338 and 328 Transistors.

behaviour now: the cd spins immediately after switching on power.

but: the direction is wrong and the speed is teslalike - much to fast.

i saw some post regarding pcb31 and a transistor there (6314), but my board doesn’t have that.

martin: I need your help again

Which types of transistors did you fit for the two positions respectively?
Photos front and back?

Hi Martin,

i installed

BC338-25 Transistor NPN 25V 0,5A TO92 from CDIL

and

BC328-25 Transistor PNP 25V 0,5A TO92 from CDIL.

But i changed only one of the fusible resistors. The burned one - need to check the other (besides him?)

Here is a picture of the other pcb - maybe here is something wrong?

It's possible that there is a problem on the decoder board, but it's nothing I can see in the photo.

I have noted transistor 6314 (BC818-16 SMD) failing a few times.
You could check the +/- 9,5V supply voltages.

Hi Martin,

yes i saw in several posts the 6314 as possible source got this behavior, but I can’t find it.

could you help me by marking the location?

best regards

I don't recall its exact position, and there are slightly different board versions but, being an SMD, it's found on the underside of the decoder (Module 31) board.

Hi Martin,

it was easier then expected. There is only one smd transistor on the backside fortunately.

otherwise I would not have known which one to exchange.

Result: the CD player is playing again.

THANK YOU Martin !!!!

It makes really fun repairing these old icons. But without the help of such experienced professionals like you it would be close to impossible (as said, I am not an electrician),

all the best (wherever you are)

stay healthy
