Hi

I decided to replace the foam in my BL8000s. They have been working fine but as the foam causes such damage with time I thought I'd better do it. I didn't buy a kit but bought foam...cut it to size etc. Old foam was crumbly and almost felt wet.

Once I put the speakers together again I was absolutely astonished at the change in the sound! They sounded magnificent. Treble was clearer...bass much tighter sounding and overall amazing. To be honest I almost had a tear in my eye.

Anyone who hasn't changed their foam on their speakers....do it...its worth the hassle!

Hi OldJack

To be honest I just went to a foam supplier and just looked for one that looked the most similar. I didn't worry about the colour as its inside the speaker.

Doesn’t sound right. BL8000 bass element uses rubber surrounds and not foam. They don’t deteriorate in the same speed or way as BL6000 does.

The BL 8000 does have foam dampeners inside that does deteriorate and can cause issues with the internal electronics and also cause sound differences due to not damping the case correctly anymore.

If you really replaced your rubber surrounds with foam on BL 8000 I’m sure there’s a different sound but the foam will wear in a bit but probably never be as light as the thin rubber is.

I also do not think that treble would improve by this operation. Maybe a difference in mids however since these speakers rely on the bass to play those frequencies too.

I meant the interior foam..the dampening. I would haven't though that changing it would have made such a drastic change in the sound but it did. The old foam totally changes consistency of time becomes like glue. Clearly the change effects the sound.

I am hoping that I'm not to late to get an answer to this question...

I was able to buy the 'official' foam parts for my BL8000's.

What did you use to 'glue' the replacement foam into place?

Thank you in advance.

None, the official foam has a sheet with instructions. No glue needed.

Ok, I see now. I guess I should have considered that it is just a friction fit. Still seems like some of the long pieces might shift around.

Thank you for that!

BTW: I think the B&O dealer may have sold me too many of these foam kits. I have 2 speakers and 6 sets of foam. Anyone need the extras?

Hi Thames,

I have recently bought a gorgeous pair of mk 1 beolab 8000's. It sounds like I should replace the foam. If you still have spare then please let me know if you would like to sell a set. And I would appreciate any tips on the process. Thanks!

I'm super sorry I didn't see your post until now. Do you still need the foam?

I still have qty 4 of the 'kits', enough for 2 pairs of speakers.

If you (or anyone else) still needs them let me know. I'm not sure of the 'correct' way to trade contact information on the forum so let me know.

Hi Alls,

Thanks to Thames, a template to custom make BL8000 foams is now available in the wiki section of the forum.

I have some new foam on the way, laser cut to the correct sizes (some jobs I'll pay up for !). Before it arrives, I was wondering if there was any merit in further dampening the case by adding Dynamat to the inside before the foam ? It would certainly add mass to the cases.

Does there exist some information on where to place the different new foam spare parts?
