Hello,

I have three of the following lights mounted on top of a bookcase. They are connected in series with one on/off switch.

http://www.ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/products/00129871/

They each have a 12V 20W halogen bulb.

Does anyone know if it would work to replace the switch with an LC2?
(I do not need dimming)

Also, does anyone know why the LC2 was disapproved for use with halogen bulbs?

Usage Notes - December 2003

LC2 has been through a new approval process and as a consequence it cannot be used with low voltage halogen bulbs, low energy bulbs or fluorescent tubes. It is approved only for connection with standard filament bulbs. LC2 will continue in its current form only and there are no plans to update this product.

I have read a few threads in the forum but cannot get my head around it. Would appreciate help from you guys (I do not want to start a fire)!

Hi Rivenflush,

You can add the LC2 in the powercord, and leave the original switch on.

The LC2 can give some problems, or won't work with 12V. Therefore place the LC2 before the powerlead goes to the transformer.

I use this method more than 15 years, and it's still working. Even with halogen bulbs. I use these lights, dimmed by the LC2, without any problems.

You can even program the LC2 that the dimming is excluded, only the on/off function.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

thanks for the quick response!

Ok, so if you understand you correctly I could just place the LC2 anywhere on the cord?

Just posted a picture to be 100% sure, anywhere on the cord shown should be ok then?

Just where you hold the cable with your fingers on the photo. That's exactly where I have placed my LC2.

Right. You can add an LC2 in that place or just replace the little cable switch, because you don`t need it anymore.

The good thing is you can add several halogen bulbs to the 12V power supply to control all bulbs simultaneously via one single LC2-see the instuctions.

If the light system got its own dimmers (for example touchtronics) LC2 may not work, or must be reprogrammed as a switch.

LC2 is a 220-240V dimmer, so you have to place it always "in front of" the 12V power supply on the 230V side. So please be careful with your work. 230V can be dangerous...

Ok, LC2 added instead of the light switch and once it was programmed for low energy bulbs it worked fine.

However, realized that I wanted the LC2 on the floor rather than on the wall so I will have to buy a new switch or "the other thing that looks like a switch without a switch which I do not know the english word for" and place the LC2 lower down on the cable.

Also installed another LC2 in my living room to control similar lights.

Thanks for the help!
