Dear Friends of BeoWorld!

First a merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all of you!

Moving to a new flat I'd like to setup a ML system. I've already read some threads and within beotech but still have some questions or need someone to confirm my thoughts.
I'd like to link 4 rooms which now are "connected" in line through an empy tube. room one should get three ml sockets 1-3).
At the moment I have got a BS9000 (+BL8000), BS5/BM5 (connected with ML cable to BS9000) and a BW3200 (+BL3) standalone
In new future I'd like to ad a A8 with beolink active - to listen to music from BM5
In far future maybe I'll be able to add a Beovision (ML or NL ???)

So:
I think a Cat7 cable is recommended. A ML-cable has (far) more pins. In this thread http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/1277/10837.aspx#10837 there is some explanation but I still do not know on which picture to rely on. So please tell me which colors I have to use to set up my sockets. I've also read that some pins would have to be joined/solded togheter...
I do not want to risk a electrical hazard that kills my Beosounds.

In room 1 I'd like to setup the BM5 at socket 1, the BS9000 at socket 3, socket 4 empty (maybe a BS3500 later), the BS3200 at socket 5 and a Beolink active with A8 at socket 6.
Maybe later on a Beovision in Room 1...

Is this possible? Is it possible to listen to music from BM5 in all rooms?

Using a Cat7 cable - is it better to get newish RJxx (don't know which please help) sockets and cables from Steve at Sounds Heavenly (ML on one side and RJ45 on the other side) or to get "original" ML sockets with 16 pins.

Some problems/questions with Powerlink cables which I'd like to direct within the walls in room 1. Newish RJxx sockets are prefered?

Thanks a lot and

best Regards

Elmar

Note that Beoplay A8 has no ML functionality.

Another comment for clarification: Why do you need a BS3200 when you already have a BS9000? I think it may mess things up with more than one audio master in the system. You could just have speakers there and a Beolink eye to control the sound.

Hello Hiort!

To link an A8 with a Beolink active is a proper way - already discussed by hfat - thanks a lot to him.
I hope it is possible to setup the system I have in mind - why leaving out the BS3200? It's a masterpiece of design; I only would go without it if its not possible due to technical reasons.

And I still do not know witch sockets to use, how to connect them to a cat7 cable?

Best Regards

You have run the cabling from device to device, the old way and you have ml equipment. So use ML cable with ML connectors.

This should answer most of your questions.

Look at page 29 for the different wires in a ML Cable.

Use Cat7 cables if you please.

Hello MM!

Thanks for this hint; I've already read the handbook;
I think cat7 cables fit for future - maybe sometime NL will replace ML?!?
But:
Cat7 does have 8 different wires whereas on page 29 ML counts 9 different wires plus ground (three wires); so which wires are to use?

Best Regards

The only advice I can give is to Star wire to a central point.

This will give you the best chance of future proofing.

Spur wiring is not recommended.

As StÜrrock said, Cat7 star wired is also my recommendation. For ML and PL (maybe PL direct cabling if it`s too long...).

BS5 as NO AUDIOMASTER with BS9000 (audiomaster) and BS3200 as local audiosystem with A.OPT5 and N.MUSIC compatible and BL active with L.OPT5 should work.

Hi elmar.

I have just moved house and I have ran 4cat7 and 1cat5 to each tv point plus 2coax. I have also ran a master link cable to each location too. They Are all then routed back to one location which is in my loft where I will be putting a rack and also that is where I will be putting my sky boxes and controlling via the puc using beo4 or beo5. system consists of 3x bv7-32 1xbv6-26 plus a beosound 9000 and beolab8000s. and a Panasonic tv in the main room which I will control sky using a magic eye down one of the coaxes and will send it back using hdmi ballon via the cat7. I am also using hdmi balloons on two of the bv7-32 so that I get sky in hd.

Anyway my point is I ran the cat 7 to future proof myself it wasn't cheap and at the moment only three of the 20 cat7 cables are actually getting used and nne are for audio they are only for hd. I did plan on running my master link down cat 7 but that never ended up happening as the cost of buying the leads (cat7-master link) made no sense as I had a roll of master link ad I ended up with a tidier installation.

Hi again. I pad screen starts to flicker when message gets to biig

So you say that you have a tube linking the rooms meaning you can swap and change cable as you please? If so why not go with master link cable. If I could swap and change I would only use the cables I needed at the time as technology is moving so quickly you can't really ever 100% future proof your self. I was going to run it to where I plan on putting future speakers(rears) but I'm glad I didn't now as b&o then launched wisa which would of rendered them redundant before they had ever been used.

I also researched cat 7 a lot and really it is overkill cat 6e is more than sufficient however b and o insist on cat7 then connectors are also a lot more expensive for cat 7 and if you don't use the expensive cat 7 ones an go with cat6 connectors you may aswell just use cat6 cable. Also if not wired properly apparently the shield on cat7 can carry electricity causing the wire to melt maybe even cause a fire. There's also bending radius to take into account they say not to bend it more than say a tennis ball radius if that makes sense.

Just my two pence worth I'm sure there other people on here with more info and some who would disagree but that's my honest opinion. All the best

Hello to All!

After finishing my setup running a cat7 cable it works perfectly with BS 3200 (with BL3) in A.opt 1 and BS5/BM5

now I included my BS9000 (with BL8000) - A opt1 (I suppose) following issues occur:

playing n.music (BM5) on BS3200 I must not switch on BS9000 (N.music is shown on display) -> it's going to overrule the music on BS3200 with playing the same source in both rooms (BL8000 are off/red)

switching off BS9000 also switches off BS3200

I'm very happy with this setup - the only thing I do not like is the fact that I cannot listen to N.music in link room (=BS 3200) and listen to e.g. radio in main room (=BS9000);
Is there any known way to get this work?

What about including link speakers like BL3500 or a Beolink active (planned to be in future) - will I have the same issues?

What about connecting a Beovision in main room? What will change? Will I be able to listen to n.music in a link room AND watch TV in main room? At the moment I can not switch on BL9000 while playing N.Music in link room.

Thanks for your thoughts, best regards

elmar
