I have just seen this on a Danish auction site:

Have any of You Beoworlders ever seen a BG 5005 like this?

It definitely looks like a Beogram 3000. The 5005 we all know, was sharing the design of the 5000/5500 system -  so what could the explanation be for this one???

I wonder if it has a red label? Well, only time will show. I'm on my way now, to go and pick it up (Yes, I won the auction). Wink
My guess is, that it's a prototype. As you can probably see from the pictures above, it looks just like a BeoGram 3000 type 59xx, but it's named BeoGram 5005 instead, just like Steffen pointed out, but another thing is that the lettering is orange instead of white.

Maybe the number 5005 can be explained by the fact, that there already was 2 BeoGram 3000s; BeoGram 3000 52xx and BeoGram 3000 Thorens.
The weird thing is just, that it doesn't make sense compared to BeoSystem 5000 and the real BeoGram 5005.
But B&O were a bit weird when it came to naming their products in the 80s as you are probably familiar with
We have 2 BeoMaster 3000s, 2 BeoMaster 5000s, 2 BeoMaster 6000s, 3 BeoGram 3000s, 2 BeoGram 6000s, 2 BeoCord 5000s... yeah, you get the point. Big Smile And the ones of you that know about my other prototypes, also know that BeoSystem 5000 was called 4000 before it went into production.

I'll take some better pictures of it once I get home, but first I'll bring it back to it's hometown, Struer, as I have an errand there.

By the way; were you one of the bidders, Steffen? Smile

Congratulations with your  Beogram, Dennis. Smile

No - I wasn't one of the bidders. I have several of those tangential Beograms.
And this was a bit more than I would pay for a Beogram - even if it's a rare one.  Wink

But I'm looking forward to hear a little more about this one. If it does have a red label, etc.

Got home with it about an hour ago. Haven't tested it yet. One thing I noticed is that the motor is quite noisy when spinning the platter manually, but apart from that it looks fine - the tip on the MMC4 looks good as well. There's no label on it, and it doesn't look like there's ever been one, but other differences (model name, orange printing, platter surface is a bit odd, no printing on the circuit board etc.) does make me believe, that it's a prototype.

Regarding the price; well, you can usually pick up a BG3000 for around 500 DKK, and I ended up spending 2100 DKK on this one + fuel. A bit pricey compared to what I usually pay for these prototypes, but it fits nicely into my collection, so I went for it.

Oh, and that little errand in Struer I talked about earlier? I'll let the pictures talk for themselves first:

Sadly it isn't for sale. I will keep it's location a secret, but it's in good hands, which is always good to know. It has no. 1707 and Peter's has no. 1686, which could indicate, that there's has been made at least 22 BM4401's if there's been a BM4401 for all numbers between those two. Could be interesting to know, which no. Frede's has.

More pictures of my BeoGram 3000/5005 will come later. Firstly mom's car needs a wash. Smile

My Beomaster 4401 is number 1721.
Oh, and it's not black...
