Since they look the same, can you change their purpose by uploading firmware?

Here is the BLGW:

And here an older version of the BLC NL/ML:

And the latest Version of the BLC NL/ML:

I want to play with a BLGW to see how the Beosound 5 can be controlled via iPad App Beolink 2.

Instead of buying a used BLGW I could temporarily turn a spare BLC NL/ML into a BLGW - that is my idea behind the question...

Thanks for your Input!

Ralf

both BLC are exactly the same. Just strip away the plastics strips on the BLC without AUX. You'll see the AUX connections are present.

Same on the other side of this BLC

Note: even the BLGW have them!

Thanks. I thought so About the BLCs, too.

But how about the Beolink Gateway?

It does look the same as well. So only a Software issue e.g. you Can Change a converter to a Gateway (and vice versa)?

Addition: Not only present in the first generation BLC, but also in working order (PL, AUX, IR)

Hi Ralf

I do not know if this answers you'r question but I once bought a BLGW at a discount from a dealer because it was a BLC NL/ML body with BLGW software on it. The dealer had received it that way from B&O and had intended to sent it back to B&O but then sold it to me as I was looking for a used BLGW. The problem I had with it was that the software would not update, and after contacting B&O they told me that it would not update as it was essentially a BLC NL/ML. I sent it back to the dealer in the end and the dealer sold me a new BLGW at a good discount.

Hope this helps

Huw

Hi Ralf, were you able to find a way to change the firmware? I found the latest firmware for the BLGW online, just need a way to upload it to the NL/ML converter! Rob.

You refer to the file 1.4.0.20048-signed.bin.zip?

I got this as well but never tried to upgrade the spare converter...

Bought a used MLGW but was not satified so I gave up on B&O home Automation for now.

Hi Ralf, I am thinking of getting a used MLGW too, what is it you don't like about it? Regards, Rob.

I'm using a MLGW with HUE lights and without the help of some really smart guys from this forum and the Philips HUE API tutorials, I wouldn't have been able to make it do what I want. So I guess that's the no. 1 reason against a MLGW: The work you need to put into it to get out what you want. (HTTP JSON commands etc.).
But when you're done and it works it's much easier and faster than using any smartphone or tablet + app. I just press e.g. Light and yellow on my Beo 4 and all the lights for this scene are on. With a Beo 5 / 6 it's more family compatible as you can rename everything the way you want.
You can't beat that compared to fiddling around with your smartphone. ;-)

The BLGW seems to make automation life much more easier. I can't judge for myself as I only use MLGW.

is there already a solutions to upload the BLGW Firmware to a NL/ML Converter? I have one spare and would love to experiment with a BLGW.
