Hi all,
I have the following setup:
A BeoPort with an IR eye, connected to my PC (set to BeoLink Option 6) and connected to a BeoLink Passive amp via PowerLink, additionally I have an Ouverture connected to the BeoPort via MasterLink. This all works fantastic with the BeoPort software installed to listen to my PC or N.Music selected, or access the Ouverture Radio/CD/Tape. Also works nicely with my Beo4 remote (old version with SAT, AV, CD, VTAPE, ATAPE) where I have the A.TAPE2 added to the list, so able to select N.Music remotely as well.
Now I'd like to extend this to another room, so I have a second BeoLink Passive amp with an IR eye in the other room. I thought I can connect it via a MasterLink cable and all should work ok with my Beo4. It works with Radio/CD/Tape, but I can't get sound for PC or N.Music.
Can someone please help what am I doing wrong or what do I need to make the second amp work with N.Music (if possible at all), additional question if there's a way to select the PC source via Beo4 in the second room somehow?
Thanks, Zoltan
Thanks for the answer,
My BeoLink Passive amp is a Type 1657 with SW 1.4. I can't seem to find anything useful in the forum among the loads of threads searching for 'Beolink Passive software upgrade' and how to update software on it. Can you please point me to it? I also have a Beolink Active box, Type 1616 SW 1.3, so gave a try to connect this Active box with the IR eye to the BeoPort & Ouverture via MasterLink and connect the BeoLink Passive amp to the Active box via PowerLink (so detached the amp from MasterLink and no IR eye). I have the same result, Can't get N.Music with my Beo4 selecting A.TAPE2. Can someone also tell me how can I try to select the PC source with Beo4 as well (I don't think it will work if N.Music doesn't work, but I'd like to know)...
Regards, Zoltan
I don't think you can find anything here - probably more success with a search on the Archived Forum.
Anyhow - you can't update the Passive (or the Active) yourself.
You must let a dealer do that, since it is a hardware update.
You'd probably need the 1.6 version - not quite sure of that

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Not sure if 1.5 or 1.6 will allow PC and A.TAPE2.
Thanks,
So sounds like even updating my Passive box might not result in being able to use it as I would like to :( So what do you suggest to use in my second room to connect and be able to hear the BeoPort instead of the BeoLink Active or Passive? Open to and any ideas welcome...
I'll ask BeoStore Hungary tomorrow if they can answer or do the update...

Even if it will not work, still looking forward to get an answer what option would trigger the PC source on my old Beo4? I have a newer Beo4 too which has a DVD button and I do have PC listed in there, but it does not trigger the passive or active box to turn on, but it works ok with the BeoPort and switches to PC. Actually with both Beo4s the A.TAPE2 switches on the passive amp (but no sound of N.Music coming through)...
Trying to ask from another point of view... Isn't there a way to hook up the Beolink Passive with the IR eye to the BeoPort to operate in an on/off/volume control mode only, but simply always playing the source selected on the BeoPort? I would be happy to simply listen to what's the main system playing without the need of source selection in the second room, but be able to switch on/off/volume control in the second room would be nice :) Maybe a stupid question, but what about a PowerLink Y splitter, so connect both Passive amps to the BeoPort and if that would be ok, can the second room amp operate with it's own IR eye or that should be split from BeoPort as well. Is it possible to conenct 2 IR eyes to the BeoPort? Well, would that result in always turning on both amps and play the same in both rooms all the time (this is an unwanted scenario) :)
zvereczi: I also have a Beolink Active box, Type 1616 SW 1.3, so gave a try to connect this Active box with the IR eye to the BeoPort & Ouverture via MasterLink and connect the BeoLink Passive amp to the Active box via PowerLink (so detached the amp from MasterLink and no IR eye). Using the Active Link (with the Passive as amp) the command 'PC' on Beo4 would trigger the 'PC-input' of the Active box.
Have you tried 'Link-PC' in that combination?
Unfortunately the Active Link Type 1616 I have has no PC input :) But does it mean getting a newer Active Link box having a PC input I could connect my PC soundcard out line to it and at least would be able to listen to my PC? Currently I have the PC soundcard out connected to my BeoPort :)
The BeoLink Active (1636) has the 'PC input'.
You can find the userguide on the B&O website.
That all sounds ok about the BeoLink Active with the PC input, and that means I could connect my PC soundcard out to it (which is currently occupied by the BeoPort) and as I understand that would still not enable to remote control the N.Music source of my PC if I'm right...

That was the question, I answered - I have no further experience with an Active Link and the sources from the BeoPort-setup.
