I am trying to use the speaker of the Avant in a link room to play music From BV8 and BC2 in my main room. I can connect the Avant with Cat 7 to the BC2 and BV8 (already installed) but what option do I put the avant in to do this? I notice that the Avant does not blink when I choose option 5 or 6 so I guess it is pre these selections. Do I need to select link room options on the Beo4 to get this to work?

Hi paddy,

the older Avants do not accept V.OPT 6/5, so cannot be used as a link room TV.

What type number and software version is your avant? Some of the older avant models did not support being used in a link room as they were designed to always act as video master in a masterlink setup. I have an early model Avant 28 in a bedroom for which this is the case (and which is therefore currently standalone)

I seem to recall someone reporting in the old forum that this can be overcome by using a beolink converter and a beolink video between the avant and the main masterlink setup (thereby converting from masterlink to datalink and back again). It has been my intention to try this but I haven't yet got around to running the necessary cable into that room.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

I don't know if you can make anything of this!

Ok, Type 8115 is the Australian market equivalent of my 8133 UK Avant and is one of the very early mk1 models.

My understanding is any model prior to serial number 12183561 are master only, regardless of software version, and so will not work in a link room except maybe by using the workaround I mentioned previously, but  I haven't tested this workaround myself (yet).

I also have an Avant 28 RF and this works fine in a link room (or at least it did until the tube failed), so depending on what the used values and availability are in your area, it may be that replacing it with a later model is the easiest option.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Martin

Thank you for your reply and it seems that I will have to use it as a stand alone in my link room.

I can still stream music through the house from my Mac and itunes connected with Airport Express to my B&O. Works a treat.

Thanks again
