Hello all
i am currently running a control 4 system and have it controlling my bv7 via a lintronic -238
It is working really well but one day I think I would like to have it connected the way it was intended with a masterlink gateway.
as masterlink is disappearing these days what is the plan for home automation control of newer products with netlink?
one day I need to work out if it's better to update my tv rather than buy the ML gateway.
any thoughts?
cheers all

Hi there
i have noticed on the bang and olufsen website you can now download control 4 drivers so maybe my dealer could use those with the MLGW.
my question is if new products are without masterlink and come with netlink then a MLGW will not do anything in the the future.
The new MLGW is called the 'BeoLink GateWay' - and has already been announced at the ISE In Amsterdam february this year.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Raeuber:The question is how long it will take until 'Netlink' and 'Beolink Gateway' will offer ALL capabilities of 'Masterlink' and 'Masterlink Gateway'. I assume we'll have to wait many years...
From the press release and photos it appears the new Beolink gateway has a masterlink connection as well as netlink so it will be interesting to see more details when released.
Kind Regards,
Martin.

My friend is running a B&O system with a US BV7 plus mac mini, BS900, 2 X BL3500, security, and cameras, from Control 4 and Gateway, with sets of codes the installer got from Control 4 for a small charge and B&O for no charge. Don't know the whole story but it can be done.

cannot wait for more info, it does feel a bit strange the a netlink gateway will be needed when the new devices are already IP enabled.

To operate a Bvis 7 from Conrol4 a Lintronic box is NOT necessarily required.
Just load the hex codes for B&O into the Control4 driver and then attach a wideband IR blaster to the C4 IR output, then hide (if you wish) the IR blaster within the Bvis 7.
For 2 way control you can have a PUC made up that will control the C4 processor from the Beo 4/5/6 or for massochists you can control the C4 directly from the Beo5/6.
This all works well for projects with a few B&O products within a Control4 enviroment. The PUC control from BeoVisions is such a brilliant feature and is vastly underused IMHO, and it could additionally benefit from having an additional IR passthrough option.
Of course if there are a lot of B&O main products in the project then of course the MLGW makes sense.

mjmedlo:The NL gateway will give two way and allow control from an iDevice. You don't have that now with the Ml gateway. The ip system and cat7 apparently lend nicely to two way feedback. I personally will be getting one. I want to replace a bv10 with bv11 and add sys4 to a bv4 and connect the NL gateway to that and the legacy products I have so I'll have 2 way in specific areas. Exciting stuff for B & O. I use lutron radio ra 2 and look forward to two way with lutron as well!
StUrrock:Again this will be great if you have a lot of B&O products to integrate with your lighting/automation system. If however you only have a couple of products the NL gateway is not really necessary particularly as I hear that Cresron/C4/RTI are working on IP drivers for the current TV range.
mjmedlo:I agree I have 8 b&o televisions and 4 other link zones with the lighting system. The gateway is the only way to go for me.

Without a doubt the best way
mjmedlo:It should be seen as a crestron, control 4, etc. alternative, not just a b&o interface.
keep on dreaming lol
That has to be the funniest line I have ever read on Beoworld, thanks for making me smile today.
mjmedlo:Don't just leave me hanging on why I'm wrong. Tell me why crestron and control 4 are so much better?? And... Help me justify the extra 50k to install a really good control system with your expertise in the matter.
mjmedlo:Certainly to each their own. I have found the beolink app to be MUCH more than a lintronic box. I use the beolink app as whole home control with every lighting zone individually programmed and all scenes programmed through the lutron system. Personally I find the beo4 much nicer than a control 4 app and frankly the control 4 app is clunky. The only automation system IMO worth paying for is one which has an overlay of the room where one can press the light or audio/video device they want to initiate. That only comes with about $50k of programming and equipment here in the good ole US of A. As I said, to each their own. For me, the mlgw and beolink gateway more than provide the automation I'm looking for. I use lutron and B&O independently and concurrently for scene triggers. Couldn't be happier with mine. .... And I have the $50k to add to my B&O collection. If you find the control system to be worth the extra added cost then so be it. I think the mlgw is much more powerful and has much more potential than most users want or need. I expect the BeolinkGW will follow and surpass my current uses.

Control4s interface is not to everyone's taste but as a system it's capabilities are far more than the MLGW you are right my comment re lintronic was a bit tongue in cheek ;) I fail to see where this figure of £50k comes from unless your using savant/amx/Crestron. In our jobs the majority of the spend is on the music system and lighting just like in yours. We have and continue to get the MLGW to talk to any system that will accept rs232 or IP commands, but in most recent instances our clients want a universal remote/app/keypads to work throughout their home. If there isn't a B&O product in the majority of rooms the MLGW just adds to the complexity and cost of programming for no added benefit. Really glad you enjoy your system for your needs we would have specified a MLGW but that scenario is becoming rarer and rarer in our automation projects. We think of the MLGW as a B&O control system that controls other control systems, which in turn can be controlled itself by other control systems. :)

I have a feeling everyone will be blown away shortly.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
mjmedlo:I don't think it will be necessary to have the gateway rather it will be the new way to control the other automation products. Lights, curtains, etc. It should be seen as a crestron, control 4, etc. alternative, not just a b&o interface. I think all will be pleasantly surprised at the interaction. As I say, I think it will be a direct competitor for crestron and control 4 type systems. Much more than a box between the two. STAY TUNED!!

Hi there all
I am really interested to hear what the new NL device will bring. I do really miss my beo4 and an not 100% sure the move away was right.
I decided to always keep my bang and olufsen in my living room. I think I will have a look at a different approach currently I have control 4 controlling the bang and olufsen I may look into using bang and olufsen to control the rest of the house via control 4.
exciting times
