RL60.2 s are at their best when stand mounted. I liked S75s with my 5500 but use CX100s because of where I have the system. S55s are excellent speakers - similar in tonal balance to S45.2s.

This is very interresting. In this Forum we hear a lot about the S 45-2 as a very well balanced speaker, which I haven´t had the pleasure to hear with my own ears, and almost nothing about the S 55´s.

I have a recapped pair of S 55 myself together with a Beocenter 8500, and I am very happy about this setup.

Will a pair of S 75´s be a better setup together with the 8500?

best regards

Yes they will. I had a pair of S75's running with a BC9000 for some time with excellent result.

Thanks for your answer.

Maybe I should look for a pair of S 75 in good condition.

Best regards

Interesting that you didn't rate the Pentas higher. I know it can be difficult to describe, but may I ask what made you choose like you did?

I recently got my Pentas running again and I was surprised how good they sound; very detailed and a nice stereo perspective as well. Don't know how I would rate them against my MS150.2s, as them and the Pentas are standing in two very different rooms right now, so I can't really make a valid rating. The amps do probably also have a lot to say in this aspect. My Pentas are MKIII Pentalabs and I use my MS150.2s with a refurbished BM8000.

I have 13 pairs of BeoVox and 4 pairs of BeoLab by the way, so I would need a pretty big room to make a side by side comparison between all of them! Big Smile

The S75's are wonderful speakers. I would rate them far above the S80.2's I had some time ago. Never heard S55's though...

Well the answer is not  that easy and straight forward. Overall the Penta is in my view the best sounding speaker, however this particular pair probably need some new caps cause they sounded dull compared to the RL's & S55's. In this case also considerations of space where a factor. Penta's do also have a quite narrow sweet-spot for listening where the RL's have a wider spread of treble & mid-range. I also tested the bass response where the Pentas fall off very clear below 40Hz but the RL60.2 did a good job down to 30Hz.

I must say that they all sounded very good and its clear that a pair of 30+ years old B&O speakers is much more value for money than any other new speakers available nowadays.

I did this setup to test for a good friend and in the end he went for the C75,s Big Smile

Thank You, Mark!

It differ from day to day, but mostly I listen to the Beolab 8000-system, that I have my CD-changer (non-B&O) linked to.

But it is really funny to be able to compare premium equipment from three decades. All systems sounds very good and most of it is refurbished.

Here is:
Beolab 8000
Beosystem 6000 4ch with Beovox S60´s
Beolab 5000, Beomaster 5000 with Beovox 4000 (and Beogram RX2 with MMC2 and Beogram CD50)
Beomaster 4000 with Beovox 4703
Beomaster 3000-2 with Beovox 3700, Beogram 4002 and Beogram CDX
Beomaster 900 with Beovox 2200 and Beogram 1000

Only five pairs here, and six systems, among which four Beosystems, plus more B&O stuff. Amateurish Stick out tongue

Still looking for classic Beovox 5000 speakers for my Beolab 5000 system.

I believe we are, more or, less playing in the same league... This obsession maybe will last for Life, or for some years or maybe a couple of Days. Next time it will be something other stuff to be collected manic.

A pair of Beovox 5000 would be nice but they dosnt grow in the trees. This pair of Beovox 4000 contains the same drivers and exactly the same filter as in 5000 Mk II, but in slightly smaller boxes. I think I can (and have to) live with them,

Sure, why not.

In that case, two pairs(triplets) CX100 + Cona, S45-2, M75, 2700, C40 (inactive), Linn Index and for testing a pair of Sony, just in case something blows up...

Well, this raises up a question how many amplifiers do you need?

Yes, that is the most important reason for stockpiling all this Equipment - we all like to have them and make them work again. I can feel a deep satisfaction over having a nice, clean and fully working music system from Denmark.

That BG 2404 would be nice with my latest system, Beomaster 2400 and two Beovox C30.

I made just the same misstake.

By the way, anyone who want to trade a pair of MS 150 / 150.2 for a nice pair of Pentas?

Hi Tam,

I use 1988 vintage Arcam One speakers to great effect. But this marriage is against nature!
