Hello There,

I revently got a Beomaster 5500 System with a pair of Penta (8Ohm, these where connected to speaker socket 2) speakers and another pair of Beovox CX100 speakers (these where connected through a MCL2A on Speaker socket 1 in another room).

My question is, if it is safe to use another pair of speakers with lower impedance on this system (I have a pair of Monitor Audio RX6 Speakers, that I would like to use instead of the Penta Speakers).

Will the amp be able to safely drive any speakers with lower impedance than 8Ohms or will it probbably cause any damage, if I connect these directly on the Beomaster 5500 (especially together with the second pair of speakers Beovox CX100)?

Would appreciate your help!
Thanks alot!

Beer Cheers elkooo

Yes it will be perfectly safe. If the Beomaster was serviced there is no problem, it is well protected and it was made to bear the extra load.

Welcome to Beoworld!

Hey there,

thank you for your rapidly reply. Well... I actually can't find out when (or if ever) it was serviced. So therefore I have no idea about the condition it is in. On the Penta speakers it sounds awesome but I don't know if this is an indication about the condition in general...

What problems could occure in worst case (say if it was not serviced)? I don't want to risk to make any damage to it by not handling it propperly...

Thanks alot for your answer,

Best Regards

Not much could occur really. The Beomaster is a "protect and survive" modern amplifier, and as such it will possibly only go into stand-by should a problem arise.

That said, it is probably a good idea to have it checked by a competent, B&O-friendly technician. I say B&O friendly because in France many techs won't even bother having the slightest look, saying, "Yuck! I don't repair that, it's so badly designed"! Yes really.

Perhaps they should learn how to read a proper service manual.

Anyway I digress! After more than 20 years, it is worth checking a thing or two!

Right. Well I guess then I'll try it out with the 6Ohm speakers.

The problem with technicians is, that I never needed one so far and thus I don't know one around here whom I can trust.

I used to listen over an old NAD-Amp until now, which I got for free since it was broken. I did several hours of re-soldering (half the board had loose components on it) and reconditioning of the relays (all myself) and the amp was ever since working flawlessly...

But now I digress... thank you for your kind support, happy to hear it is that well protected, I think I will take the risk and use my 6Ohm speakers on it...

By the way - I installed the system yesterday night and listened a bit over the Penta speakers.. and I am not sure if I even need something else! They DO SOUND GREAT!!! Big Smile Big Smile Big Smile

Best Regards
