Tim has done it again!
In the June (current) issue there's another B&O feature!
By the way...
Tim and Hayden's views differ, I agree with Tim! My final choice of SMMC20EN makes sense.

Just a thought: if you were to buy a Beogram 4000, hurry, because prices will most definitely not plummet...
Which is the unavoidable effect of nice articles like this one!
Good article - though Tim has always been a fan of the 4000 - in my view, the bass is not as extended as my 3000 Thorens. These are stunningly beautiful decks and seem hewn from solid. Much nicer than the later 4002 which were superb decks in their own right. The 4000 is just a purer design and no evidence of any cost cutting.

The Beogram 4000 is the only piece that, after 4 years of pretty selective, very limited collecting guided a great deal by what I learnt on this site and from its members, I still want.
I had one in the late 70s and foolishly sold it to buy a Linn LP12 - which was the piece of equipment that almost single-handedly started the whole 'subjectivity' debate which seems to be still raging today if HFNRR is to be believed. I still think the LP12 is a fine piece of engineering design and is almost the archetype of modern belt-driven manual decks, but it isn't a work of art. The BG 4000 most certainly is and for me disproves the view that "art cannot be inherently useful".
