Hello all.

First of all I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Phil, I live in the UK (West Midlands) and have been a B&O lover since I was 8 years old. I have 'gone a bit mad' on eBay and purchased a few old systems.  Some of which I have got working to great success - others - I have not.

At the moment I have 3 record decks that are 'spares/repairs' and two of these have a decent MMC20S cartridge.

The two decks I use - a begoram 3000/5901 and BeoCenter 7700 use a MMC4 (or equiv) cartridge.

I only own one cartridge.

Was considering swapping one of my other tone arms (I have a 1700 Beogram and the tone arm looks similar) for the one in the 7700 so I can use the MMC20S cartridges.  I do not wish to mod the 5901 as it is working fine, and I think that would be a hard job.

Anyone tried this ?

If they have not I would post up photos of me attempting this transplant.

Even on eBay MMC2,3,4s are expensive when you can get them.

I am no stranger to a soldering iron, I work as a guitar and amplifier repairer.

So - what do you guys think?

Shall I just wait any buy another MMC2,3,4 or attempt the transplant?

Thanks.

Phil

Well the obvious answer is buy another MMC4 etc. The mechanism changed for the arms though I confess to being not sure about exactly when in relation to the decks you mention. The BC7700 is possibly the best music centre made by B&O so I would be in favour of keeping it original. Having said that, I do like the MMC20 range of cartridges and the arms that came with them. It will certainly not add to the 7700's value but as this is not huge, it would be very interesting to see if the transplant worked!!

I have tried locating a decently priced MMC2,3 or 4 and can not find one.  It would be the EASIEST option.  I could sell the two MMC20S I have - actually I would retain one for my 1700 Beogram (but amazingly on eBay I would get more just for the stylus than with it in a turntable).

I have a couple of possible 'tonearms' to try on decks that are ready to be thrown out, so if decide to do it - I will start posting photos.
