Beogram 8002 Pre Amp to run Beolab

Hi all, I am just wondering, can I use newer Active Loudspeakers on a Beogram 8002?

If I buy a good modern pre amp, can I plug active speakers straight into the pre amp so I can enjoy the Beogram 8002 on the latest B&O active speakers?

What would the sound comparison be of say a Beogram 8002 (mmc1) hooked up to a Beomaster 8000 and MS150 speakers compared to the Beogram 8002 hooked up to a good pre amp and good B&O active loudspeakers like the Penta III, Beolab 1 or similar?

If listening to records, is it best to stick with the package from Beogram 8002's era or will an improvement in a modern good pre amp and speakers be worth the aural pleasure?

I would preferably like Beolab 18 as they would match the vintage look of Beogram 8002 but prob will have to settle for a good second hand active speaker set.

The 8002/8000/MS150 combination is potentially an outstanding way of listening to records. I have the 8002 and 8000 with a pair of MC120.2s as my listening room is a little on the small side for the MS150s, but I have always regretted not buying a pair when I had the chance. I have heard them in a more sympathetic environment and they are an outstandingly neutral speaker with amazing bass capability.

The only B&O active loudspeakers I have heard that I have wanted to own as much as the MS150s are the Beolab 5s.

Given how much it would cost to buy a fully sorted system based on the BM8000 compared with a decent pre-amp with a phono stage let alone a pair of Actives, I think I would stay with the original system - if you can accommodate it.

I just bought a Beogram 8002 so either have to buy a beomaster (preferably 8000) or buy a pre amp and amp.

Beomaster 8000 is getting old (would potentially need a full restoration) and is quite a big heavy unit (21kg), that's why I was thinking of a pre amp and amp setup instead that could potentially use active speakers as well.

Does anyone know of a very high quality Amp with a built in very high quality pre amp (phono input) either second hand or new? Saves me buying two separate products.

If anyone has an extremely good condition Beomaster 8000 for sale then feel free to drop me a line and I may consider buying it.

MS150s and a BM8000 sound better than Beolab 8000s. The bass in the MS150s is much more extended and more detailed. To get a similar level of detail you will need Beolab 9s at least. The top end of the 8000s is probably better though and clearly the set up will take up much less space. The pre-amp you get will need a phono stage in it though. Not sure there has been much improvement in amplification from the BM 8000 mind you. Active speaker technology has advantages over passive but some of the advantages are squandered by bean counters using cheap components and using the matching amplifier to compensate. What you want are nice decent sized drivers and matching amplifiers - like the Beolab 5!

Do 8000s with a Beolab 2 get anywhere near the ms150 in terms of bass? Unfortunately I'm being pushed down the former due to lack of space....

The Beolab 2 produces lots of bass but It is not as musical as the MS150s. Comparing MS150s with Pentas and a BL2, the MS150s walked it as far as bass was concerned. The BL2 at higher volumes sounded flabby and overdone. As a sub-woofer with a TV, it is great and gives superb low frequency effects - the room moves! But play for instance organ music, and you lose detail for noise. The Beolab 5s are streets ahead - they sound as if there is less bass but far more detail. Listen in the next room though and it is clear that there is far more bass!!! It is very easy to be unaware just how loud one is playing the Beolab 5s because it never becomes noise and remains detailed. The bass on the MS150 is similar but the top end tends to shriek.

After seeing that Sounds Heavenly do all sorts of wonderful stuff for the old Beomasters and Beograms (newer connectivity and Beolab), I have decided to try find a mint condition Beomaster 8000. Anyone know where I can find one please let me know. Failing that, I can always go beomaster 7000.

There is a member of this site who has an 8000 system and a pair of Beovox Pentas which I have heard and which sounds extremely good, if a trifle bass light. I know he has occasionally connected his Cona to this system as well , but I haven"t head the results.

Interestingly, he is looking for a pair of MS150/MS150.2s!
