Hi All,

My first post here, so go easy! Long term B&O fan. 3rd generation of the family owning some fantastic products. I recently refurbed a pair of Pentas and am delighted with them.

Here goes:

I've been engaged with an eBay seller - of this listing:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301176637525?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The strange thing is that he's relisted them twice now. So I offered to Buy it Now for the last finish price, which was £3.9K. That seems quite cheap to me!

The offer was accepted but ONLY if I paid a 30% deposit to take down the listing and bank transfer for the balance once that was done.

Thing is they are in Orkney which is really inaccessible - it's a Northern Scottish island that you can only get to by boat. I got an independent quote for delivery, which was £300. He's offering £70. He states that the last winning bidder wanted to pick them up but when found out how difficult it was to get there, declined to do so.

He said he would send me a copy of his passport and a utility bill to prove he was genuine, but I insisted that I wanted to do things via PayPal for eBay buyer protection, or to use an Escrow service. The answers to my questions seemed quite genuine. 2nd owner. Owned 2 years, etc.. I was a bit concerned about the PIN -he said he never bothered to set one. Are all Beolab 5's set ex-factory???

He said the only way to pay was via bank transfer and he does not accept my PayPal/Escrow option. I have asked if I can bid for and win the auction then pay by PayPal but he has not responded.

It does sound a bit fishy to me.

Does anyone else have an opinion? I was thinking of buying them, transporting them down to SE UK and trying them out before selling them on again and still dreaming of the day when I can really afford a set!

Thanks,

Andrew

The remote location (helps keep people from actually getting to him) and the lack of taking PayPal and the whole bank transfer thing would raise alarm bells to me. My spidey sense is tingling on this one.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Or something like that.
