Beogram with built-in preamp straight to powered speakers?

I noticed a few of the Beograms came with built-in RIAA preamps. Would it be possible to hook them straight up to a pair of powered speakers for a simple setup? Would the signal be strong enough and would it even sound good?

I had the Joey Roth speakers in mind, using a DIN to RCA adapter to connect them together.

It would work, but you will have a high volume level and no way of controlling the level.
