anyone watch the contest yesterday and notice the introduction film to denmarks entry ?

it  featured a painted danish flag and pride of place was a BeoVision LX2500 / 2800  series , painted bright red and white ?? !!

it looked great but i did wince a little , as  the tv's beautiful design was camouflaged in the flags colours !

Beautiful design, RUINED, by rubbish tacky music.  I cringed when I watched the show.  Half an hour was enough…….  Where's the bucket?

You should have watched till nearly the end. The Netherlands ended in second place Smile

But even now you could notice the slim/sleek design when tubes were used then in these days.

I noticed the Beovision immediately too. A fine example of non-intented product placement.

I though the Danish flag entry was very clever, showing off Danish design - not only B&O, but also some Arne Jacobsen and (I think) Verner Panton et.al.

As for the music - well, it's a very broad range of styles performing and that is the beauty of the show. Congrats Austria on winning, Netherlands on another great song and of course Sweden - all top three were great songs!

It's a brilliant joke with some less than average music. The voting is by far the best bit, where we play guess the vote. Latvia voting for Russia...10 points or else.

Hilarious

Ironic too that our language (English) is used more and more whilst at the same time the rest of Europe register their dislike of the UK/ English in the voting.

Even the French entry had some English lyrics (which I thought was something the French had previously been banned by their government from doing!)

We should be proud that we just enter into the spirit of the thing, and don't treat it seriously.

Go into any country on mainland Europe, turn on the radio to see who really has the monopoly on good music :-/

That's not a requirement, membership in EBU is.

as we in Blighty will never win we should give the gig over to Motörhead and let them play at 11 just for the fun of it.....

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

The Netherlands entry was fantastic, should have won. The best song by a mile. I've already downloaded it.

But I am a country  music fan, so maybe I'm biased!!

I'm not a C&W fan but I thought the Netherlands entry was fantastic. It made me search YouTube for more songs by The Common Linnets. They should have won.

Actually, both of them are well known for many years over here, but both are solo artists. Only for this event they teamed up, but since this success there might be more to come.

I don't think that the rest of Europe dislike the UK. The song just wasn't very good this year... (well -- at least it was better than the cr.p that won!!!)

I was hoping for Netherland -or Ukraine (mostly because of the beautiful Mariya singing...) :-D

The boundaries of Europe are and always have been highly fluid...

I didn't know Russia was a part of it.

Anyway; paying your way into the final should be banned, and politics shouldn't be playing such a role in voting. If that were so, the Netherlands would have won.Stick out tongue

On a slightly different note, I thought it was fantastic that the person that won it, did so despite the behind the scenes politicking that went on to try and ban her from competing.

A big victory for fairness and equality in a world that seems hellbent on returning to the dark ages of superstition and religious bigotry IMHO.

Best Regards

John.. :-)
