Howdy folks.
My Beocord 2000 will not play more than a second or two and stops. Same for FF and RW. In reviewing the archived posts, a member with a 5500 had a similar problem and the suggested solution was to lubricate the spindles/axels. I should mention that it has not received much use lately.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Check the belts first.The motion sensor is driven by the right reel table through a belt.

Would this be a DIY project for someone with below average skills?
This deck is not one of the worst when it comes to replacing the belts but of course it still takesa little skill and also a few tools.
