First off, I’ve been reading all the threads regarding the new Avant with great interest. In addition, the thread discussing the BL19 and BL18 are also quite interesting. As I plan my foray back into the B&O ecosystem with a television, I’ve mentioned in passing that my wife and I also listen to music.

Our budget doesn’t really call for buying an entire a setup with external speakers and a subwoofer along with the television at the moment (depending on the television considered); but we don’t want to be disappointed in the sound we’ll be enjoying out of the box since our use of the kit will likely be 60/40 Video / Music.

That being said, I’ll be planning an extended visit to the dealer as soon as they have the new model in, but for those of you who have experience in this, I’d like to ask the following question:

We’ll definitely be pulling the trigger on a television at some point this year. We’re not sure where our budget will be in the way of adding speakers to it, but that may have to wait until next year. With that in mind, and knowing that sound is equally as important to us as the video quality, which would be a wise move with the long term in mind:

Avant only now; wait until next year and purchase a sub and speakers together

Avant + sub now, and wait until next year to purchase L and R speakers

BV11-46” + speakers +/- sub (depending on the model) now

BV11-46" + sub; wait for L and R speakers next year

Or are there other options I should consider? For those who have had this same conundrum, what have you done? As I mentioned before, I had the old Avant connected to a pair of BL3's and a BL2, and it was amazing. Though from what I've read in other posts  the BL19 is incredible, and wireless to boot!

I'm wondering if adding just a sub can round out the sound out of a BV Avant / BV 11's speakers enough to satisfy until L and R speakers are added at a later date.

Sal - i would suggest not to go for a 11-46 if you are looking at 40% music without external speakers at the beginning. Go for the 11-55 as the sound profile is noticeably better compared to the 11-46. And my impression with the 11-55 you don't need a sub, and you can put the extra dollars to move from the 11-46 to the 11-55. Having said, as per previous post, the Avant may be a better option as it is priced less than the 11-55, better screen and some newer sound technology with a true centre speaker. Pop onto a store and compare the 11-55 with the Avant for BR and sound.

BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100

I understand the question and dilemma. However given your existing speakers which must satisfy your music tastes already, isn't the immediate decision simplified to the beovision ?

And if so, surely the criteria are:

- room aesthetics

- best PQ

- best placement options

- best technology future proofing (including WISA)

- best platform flexibility

Thanks for the response, yes although my current speakers do satisfy, I intend not to keep them when I purchase the television, therefore, there may be a vacuum which would need to be filled. The variables you stated, PQ, placement, technology / future proofing, platform flexibility, are indeed important. Another consideration for me (because I'm a worry-wort) is the moving parts of the Avant. Inherently they are added points of failure. Especially when considering that the television may be turned on and off multiple times daily. But that also hold true for the motorized stand. Then again, this is B&O, their motors / etc are bulletproof.

You make some very good points. The more I've been reading, and comparing the two, the only things that seem to sway me in favor of the BV11 are the classic design, and lack of moving parts (points of failure). I'll definitely be going to a B&O store soon to audition.

Pre owned 11-46 £4,000 ish, and a pair of pre owned Beolab 9's £3,700 again ish. In budget, all relatively new and current and amazing music and film setup.

Just a thought.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Unfortunately, the pre-owned B&O market here in the states isn't as robust as that in Europe.

Why not wait until someone actually got an Avant in their home? People are just suggesting BV11 since they know that set from before, or have it themselves (biased).
