Hello All, a question that might seem simple but has me a little lost. I need to disassemble the original DIN plug on my beogram 4004 so I can resolder some loose connections. However Im not sure how to take the assembly apart, I'm worried about breaking the old plastic and then having to hunt down a replacement (I'd prefer to keep the original because it has the two removable pins for the remote control)
Short answer, you can't without slightly damaging it. It will slide out though if you insist. You have to "open" the metal "barrel" to do that: the pin support will then slide out.
My advice is to buy a new one, but then it will be black!

Slide a small flat-bladed screwdriver in between the grey plastic cap and the metal housing to "open a passage" that will help easethe white plastic tap out (it comes out with the whole meta housing etc.) while sliding the grey plastic cap up the cable. Then you have the metal housing with the black plastic pin holder and a white nylon support.Open the strain relief that is tightened around the cable and cut the shield connection where it has been solderedto the metal.Use the same small flat-bladed screwdriver to release the two catches that holds the white nylon support to the blackplastic pin holder while pulling the pin holder out (using pliers to pull the pins). The black plastic will come out withall the pins as one part and the metal housing with the nylon support will slide up the cable.
As Jacques said, you will almost always be able to tell that someone was inside the plug but, with a little practiceand gentle handling, you can easily open and close the plug several times this way without damaging it beyond use.
