Hello everyone first post here, I was fortunate to pick up my first beomaster today, I regularly repair electronics and I thought this would be the best place to come to ask a few questions....
The problem I am having is the unit seems to be very low volume when volume pot is at maximum, I've been right through it and replaced most of the electrolytic capacitors already....
I believe the problem is the *****....now out of the 3 pots on the tone board the balance is different....now I think that some copper plates that make contact may have come out as it looks different but I am unsure and don't want to try taking it apart encase I break it....I will upload pictures if possible...but I am thinking this is possibly a common problem...?
I have also been unable to find ***** ...maybe someone can help me there as well....?

Welcome to Beoworld !
First thing with all Beomaster 2200 is to replace the electrolytic capacitors on the voltage regulator module. That's four or five caps.

There is a full service manual on this site if you upgrade to silver or gold membership.

That's a shame, nothing worse than having to pay a membership just to access user manuals...all I really want it for is to check idle current...but anyway.....yes as stated ive replaced all those dirty old red caps...quite a few of them were bad....
The problem is the balance potentiometer, after doing a bit more reading I see this is a common problem.......I de soldered the pot and managed to dismantle it, I gave it all a bit of a clean but I would say someone has used some kind of evil solvent on it at some stage...probably wd40.......I got it back together and have managed to get full volume back but the pot is still not functional.......I am wondering about successful repairs on these?....at the moment I am considering running some wires off pcb to a new 20k ohm pot maybe discretely drilled into side of unit.....thinking this is probably the best long term solution.......thoughts?
Just want to add, this is a really sweet sounding unit......it came with some s-40's as well that will need a refoam....cant wait to get it all back together....
I may need a few parts if anyone has a ****....one being the **** .....this has broken where the ****....also wondering if this lid should be spring loaded?
A balance potentiometer "discretely" drilled into the side ?Nothing worse than hearing suggestions like this.
Yes, the lid is spring loaded and dampened, opens slowly by itself.
If you upgrade to at least silver membership level, you can place sales/wanted ads.Your support will be appreciated. I have lots of good used original parts in the dungeons.

TrueBlue:.at the moment I am considering running some wires off pcb to a new 20k ohm pot maybe discretely drilled into side of unit.....thinking this is probably the best long term solution.......thoughts?
Uhhh...Bad idea!
//Bo.A long list...
I know, and I dislike such modification on any vintage unit, but...the likelihood of getting a suitable replacement in "good" condition I believe is slim...as from what I have read...this pot seems to be a common fail on a lot of B&O units.....
I should have said drilled into rear.....there is a lot of empty space on right hand side of unit......know one would ever see it....and it would be easy to just reach over the unit to adjust balance when required.....in saying this I will have another go at disassembling pot and repairing...but I believe the problem lies with the resistive coating that has been worn away....
I had a look at the mechanism that operates the lid today, some hell gunge has been put into this, almost like honey but worse....even with parts out and soaked in hot soapy water has been very hard to get them clean again.....I will just have to do as best I can to get it out of the chassis cavity......upon getting it back together, I think the **** may need replaced ( is this common?)as there is no way it will lift the lid on its own....very light weight spring for a reasonably heavy door....
As far as the membership goes, This is my first post and I have been prompted to pay a membership already....I am a believer in try before you buy.....

I don't believe he specifically said he has a **** for this unit in good condition.....although I do appreciate his post.....I don't want to get into an argument here......but I am a member of several forums that I regularly post in that don't require a membership....one of my posts last month is already up to 3000 hits....is that not contributing?......
This is my first B&O unit....and I am so far impressed with the engineering.....and most importunately sound quality, it has a silkiness about it.....its just waiting on a few more caps......and for now only tested on my dummy loads....I look forward to hearing its full capability......and again admiration for its construction....I may become a B&O fan....but for now I need help, not another bill on the table......
Cosmetically this unit is about 75%.......I have invested more time and money than I would normally just to experience B&O.....so work with me...

ok then.....where can I start in regards to checking idle current?
OK,
You are actually much closer to the correct replacement parts than you think, let alone manuals, schematics, service tips, expertice and decades of experience.
Beoworld is one of the most friendly places on this planet but we do have a few regulations, needed primarily because itcosts money to run a site like Beoworld. One regulation is that sales and wanted ads must be placed in theappropriate section or you must at least upgrade to silver membership level.
I understand that you are already a member of several fora where you can post for free (you can do the same hereat Beoworld, all you like - just not sales/wanted). I also understand that you are not game for supporting Beoworld so I will edit out your part request from your posts in this thread.
I am sure, you can ask your Beomaster 2200 parts needs in one of the other fora, you frequent.
BTW. The heavy grease is called Kilopoise. It's what dampens the lid while opening.Don't remove too much of it, you will need it when you have collected all the hinge dampening parts and have themcorrrectly in place.
TIP: If you absolutely MUST remove it or it gets in places where it doesn't belong, you can give it a shotof contact cleaning agent and it'll wipe away with a soft cloth.
PS: The balance pot is by nature different from the other two.
Thankyou, that was an invaluable piece of information.....especially considering I had one channel sitting at 60 mA...!, I think I might pull that board again and recheck resistors....
Amusing.....fair enough...
I did figure this fudge did have something to do with dampening the mechanism.....however it had probably dryed to the point it was more like glue....horrible stuff and a thumbs down for design in my opinion.....
Hey True Blue
did you get the unit and the speakers from eBay about a week ago? If so I was also watching that auction, I am located in Melbourne. I have a BM2200 as well, great sounding unit once you recap the power supply board and the power amp boards. It is likely you will find someone on this site who can sell you a good balance pot, they were common to both the BM2200 and the beocenter 4000.

TrueBlue: it was more like glue....
it was more like glue....
Sounds right. But of course it should only be on the twin-plate arm on the lid and the damper plate that slides in between.
yes mate that's the one.....last minute bid decision....I probably should have picked up the TT as well....did you catch what that sold for out of interest?.......all up including caps speaker surrounds and fabric...I am about 180 in now...so with the amount of time required on the system its very much a charity job.....hence the reason I am a bit reluctant to spend more on a forum membership as well as over seas parts that could possibly be more expensive than I would consider.....I've really got to stop saving things....but then we will see how it comes out.....
It actually looked more like someone had added oil or something at some stage...being unevenly on top of that part of the chassis also.....I didn't consider it may have been a dampener until I had pieces out and started trying to clean them...at this stage I will be happy if I can get the door to open again correctly.....I think I may be able to repair switch...
Well I got the rest of the caps for the tone board in today and set about trying to get this thing finished, after finishing the recap I de soldered the balance pot again for another go....this time I hit the two plates with a bit of heat from the iron effectively gluing them back in place....after doing this I carefully bent them evenly, then I reassembled....with success! its now fully operational!
Very happy with my handy work I set about full reassembly of unit, but prior to this quickly retested all functions.....Damn! more problems....I now have a problem with FM, no sound at all.....I then pulled the tuner boards again and checked for loose connections, reassembled... got sound but couldn't pull a station....repeated process and now no sound again.....bit frustrated now.....the tuner board was particularly difficult to get one cap out of, Ive checked the coax lead and all solder joints....I am now worried I may have blown an IC handling the board....bit stuck right now, Suggestions?
As far as everything else goes, big improvement on frequency response after re capping tone board, I am listening to the system now, with s-40 speakers that have just been refoamed, and it sounds very sweet....its going to make someone very happy....if I ever get it off my bench! lol...lots of hours gone in now....
Update....problem was a broken wire coming off tuner board....good thing it happened though as I also had a bad solder joint on one of the new caps.....
Well I've got to say, this thing sounds really good...when I had finished re foaming speakers initially I wasn't happy with them at all...that was hooked up to a nice Marantz receiver....but now married with the B&O they sound great...lots of detail and a nice snappy bass.....need to do a little more work on them as I believe the plastic baffle isn't sealed properly on one of the cabs causing vibration.....but yeah...very nice little set up this one.....
All that's left to do now is fix this broken plastic lid button, and sort out the hinge......then I will be looking at refinishing the rose wood panels and speaker veneer....
