Hi
I wonder whether anyone has found a similar problem and explanation for the following issue which I have encountered only after a recent OSX upgrade from OSX Snow Leopard to OSX Mountain Lion.
I am running LinkPlayer V1 on an iMac using the Beoport PC2.
I have found after the OSX upgrade that if I try to awaken the iMac from 'computer sleep' mode by activating N.RADIO or N.MUSIC via the Beo4, the disk does wake (you can hear it activate) but play will not start unless you manually intervene at the keyboard to wake the display also. This problem did not occur prior to upgrade - previously the disk would wake and the display would also wake and playback would begin.
I have searched the various forum threads and found that this problem was encountered by several people years ago, but it was unclear whether / how they resolved it.
I do not think that the problem has anything to do with LinkPlayer V1 - rather something has clearly changed in the OSX Sleep functionality under Mountain Lion (or possibly Lion - I bypassed that in the upgrade) - it may be related to the way the BeoPort signals the iMac. I noticed that previous people who encountered this problem included BM-Link users as well as LinkPlayer users. Also, I have noticed that when I wake the display after using the Beo4 to try and wake the iMac, LinkPlayer has responded - it is as if the sound channel has not been opened though.
I have worked around the problem by setting 'computer sleep' to 'never' in the power save preferences. The 'display sleep' functionality is fine. LinkPlayer starts playback fine while the display is asleep. This I guess is OK, but I would like the computer to be able to fully sleep automatically just to save power and wear and tear.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
I am not sure if I have experienced your problem; my Mc Mini's "display" is our BV8, so that is often "on". And of course when I press N.Music to play through the BV8's speakers I suspect the "display" is on even though it is black ...
I know that when I use a MacBook to view the Mac Mini's screen it is configured differently from when I use "PC" mode on the BV8.
I would have to do a test for you where I have the BV8 absolutely turned off - and then use N.Music from a link room.
It may take me 24 hours to get the ideal conditions (i.e. no one in the family using the BV8 !)
BeoNut since '75
OK I did a brief test before going to bed ...
I have two wrinkles in the system tonight which may or may not confuse the test . . . . .
Also I was testing BM-Link ... I would have to make some other changes to test LP Mark I or Mark II (beta) ...
However I did repeat the test twice, and I am convinced that even though the BV8 was turned off ... and I think the MacMini had quiesced (I could feel no vibrations with my hand resting on it) ... it would appear that N.Music in the link room did activate the MacMini and BM-Link and iTunes.
I will repeat this test in say 8 hours when we can be absolutely certain that the MacMini should have gone to sleep :-)
Many thanks for taking the trouble to look at this. I appreciate that it's rather an obscure problem and might be quite hard to re-create. I might not have thought of it as a problem if it were not for the fact that it worked quite cleverly under Snow Leopard. At least if you are not able to re-create it then it gives me some hope that it might be an obscure time-out setting or something of that nature in OSX that I don't have correct.
Thanks again.

No problem - happy to help.
I can confirm that after a 5 hour rest the Mac Mini - BMLink - iTunes started from the link room with a single N.Music button,
I run Time Machine backups every hour to my Time Capsule ... perhaps this keeps the Mac Mini from going into a deep sleep ?
Thanks again for checking. I also wondered about Time Machine's impact on the sleep function because I too have an hourly backup setup. Under Snow Leopard I definitely recall that it used to wake the disks because you would hear it if you were sitting near the machine and the room was quiet! I haven't noticed this phenomenon under Mountain Lion, though it must happen as I can't see any other way that it can do the backup.
I will try and do some more research and refine my understanding of the problem. I can also test using BM-Link which I have on my machine but haven't used for some years. Perhaps we could leave this open for a while in case you or someone else has any other ideas.

Much as I love LinkPlayer I tend to have BMLink running in the background as I assume it is more light weight. Most of our listening is now done through the ATV (I appreciate there are quality differences, but convenience is part of "quality").
One other thought is that I have auto-install of software enabled - as well as auto-backup and synch of two iDevices - all of which may help keep the Mac Mini lively
And happy to keep this open - either until I do an LP I versus II test, or until someone else contributes to the discussion

Did the LP I test - it worked too
The thing that is really puzzling me .... is that BM-Link generated N-Music information on my BeoSound 4 !
Hopefully I will get the LP II test done today as well

LP II also worked (i.e. music started even after macMini had been "dormant" for an hour)
And kept playing even though no "screen" was active for the macMini's display
Many thanks for taking the time and effort to do the tests. I guess we'll have to close it. It's a puzzle, but happily not a showstopper. If I ever crack it I'll post a note referring to this thread.
Thanks again
