I've bought a couple of additional Beolink passive boxes (used) and they are the newer version with part plastic case, no off button etc., but annoyingly the product label does not state a s/w version. I've opened them up as I remembered the older ones also had a software version label inside the foil box that encloses the microprocessor and prom but nothing in there either on these!

Is there any other way I can determine the s/w version? The serial numbers both begin with 19 and I'll need software v1.6 in order to pass info to my MLGW but I'm not sure when this software version was released so even determining the age of the passives does not help me.

I suppose I could just try these and see what happens, and will go down this route if necessary, but ideally would prefer to order and install the s/w updates first if they are going to need these.

Cheers,

Martin.

Alternatively you could use a BL Active (with the right SW) - and just use the BL Passive as an amp.

I'm not sure that would gain me anything would it (except another black box) - the software upgrades do not cost much - especially as I will install them myself (certainly less than the cost of a beolink active).

I am just surprised / confused as to why B&O have stopped printing the s/w versions on the product labels, it's a decision that makes no sense to me.

Alright then, but....

....are you sure you can get hold of a newer SW for the BeoLink Passive?

Had one of mine updated a couple of months ago (mine had the SW version printed on the label so i knew i was on 1.4 and knew i had to upgrade)

I updated one last year as well, so unless anything has changed very recently, the s/w should still be available. As far as I can remember it was around 25GBP for the module (it's a complete new processor module as the prom is incorporated into that module)

it has occurred to me that there is a procedure for enabling the light commands to MLGW functionality which blinks the LED on the passive (much like changing a.opt does), so one i've got an eye connected I will try this as it should give a good indication as to whether it is v1.6 (which supports this) or an earlier version (which wouldn't).

Still don't understand why they are not printing version number on the label though. It doesn't state made in denmark either so maybe that is a clue Unsure

Hi Martin, I have the exact same issue! Any advice on how to determine the SW version?

Hi Luke,

No, I've opened up a couple of the Czech republic manufactured beolink passives (the ones with the plastic cases) and the software version is not even printed or engraved on the chips inside. On the older fully metal enclosure versions it was both printed on the product label, and on the EPROM inside the microprocessor enclosure.

I did however ascertain from beocare that MLGW compatibility was introduced from serial number 21446515 so any passive after this should have software v1.6.

I hope this helps...

Martin.

Just to confirm Martin's helpful post - mine have the late serial numbers and pass commands through to the MLGW as per software 1.6 - note you will need to turn this option on using the arcane set of key presses documented here:

http://mlgw.bang-olufsen.dk/source/documents/Setting%20up%20products%20to%20MLGW/MLGW%20set-up%20in%20BL%20ACT-PAS.docx

Simple eh?

Does anyone happen to know with what serial number sw Version 1.5 was introduced?

I sold a Beolink Passive on eBay and was sure to have Software Version 1.5 but since there was no sw Version number on the sticker I could not check.

Now seller Claims it does not Support A.AUX (which was introduced with sw 1.5 as I understand).

It was made in Czech Republic (plastic outer case).

Thanks for your help!

Ralf
