I'm sure it will be added to the BeoPlay website soon, but until then, here's some info I've found on it:

http://www.whathifi.com/news/bang-olufsen-launches-beoplay-v1-tv-and-beoplay-a3-ipad-dock

http://www.t3.com/reviews/b-and-o-beoplay-a3-review

Price set at £449 and available May 21.

And a photo:

From the website whathifi:

Also launched today was the BeoPlay A3, an iPad dock with an angular design and active accelerometer that allows it to sit in either landscape or portrait mode

As I said in another thread, the design is not my cup of tea.  I'm also not a fan of something which seems to be intended for dedicated use with one device.  That could be expanded if it has an aux input but really, I don't think that inclusion would draw a lot of additional buyers because it is so iPad targeted.

There was an interesting tidbit from the T3 article:

"The bad news is that it is not compatible with the new iPad just yet (only the iPad 2), but it is something that B&O are working on adding, so it's on the way."

While initially sounding like bad news, I wonder if the accommodation they come up with will make the unit flexible enough to handle future iPad iterations that may also have design deviations from either the iPad 2 or 3.   If not, current units might have relatively short shelf lives if next year's iPad won't fit.

Nice , it costs more than an iPad 3 but doesn't even support it.

..............and that nicely illustrates the potential pitfalls of making accessories for other people's products! Not unlike releasing the BS8 just as Apple release Airplay.

Killer piece of Kit!!

As a dedicated member of the BeoPlay 'Target Audience' this just hits the spot!! Lets have a Party !!!

I was watching the V1 Release very closely... the ceiling mounted option is a step in the right direction but still stands in the maybe column as i'll wait to see how the new spec influences the rest of the Brand..... But this news is definately a major relief as I had run out of desirable B&O products to splurge on Crying

This A3 looks FantasticCool - Granted it doesn't accommodate the latest iteration of the iPad... yet, but I think this is down to B&O's old school, scratch that Prehistoric, approach to innovation....  hopefully quickly rectified......

WILL be purchasing this as soon as it is compatible with the New iPad!! And I might just buy a few for the Apartment too!!

Totally unexpected... GOOD JOB BEOPLAY!!!

The official B&O launch is tomorrow... While some dealers are launching it tonight... And some others have had it in their store since Saturday at least.

maybe a silly question, but what is this A3 for? Is it a loudspeaker? if yes, for which group of people...

This website has a good review and some more pictures also expains what it is for!

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/45498/bang-and-olufsen-beoplay-a3-pictures-and-hands-on

I thought there was a push  to have all phones etc using the same micro usb type connector, if this is the case will this product be obsolete for future incarnations or does the charger issue not apply to tablets?

But think it does look very cool (but will stick with the Beolit 12 though)

Well, according to a friend in the tech industry, he now uses his iPad 3 for viewing TV, iPlayer content and similar material, away from the family. He can enjoy the delights of his own content, whilst the kids are hogging the TV.

He has a point. Although he probably wouldn't justify spending more on the A3 than his iPad 3, I guess he's B&O Play's audience. Individuals who are using their iPad's for TV/videos/catch-up content, but want improved speakers. iPad 3 screen is great, speakers could be better.

However, not sure they'll sell too many at £450. Just seems a tad too expensive for the B&O Play audience.

I disagree Moxxey, £450 seems like a magic number to me.Big Smile

Up until now, I had been a little perplexed by B&O's price points vis-a-vis BeoPlay Confused

£2000 for a TV sounds more like B&O pricing than 'Affordable' Sub-brand - but i'll withold final judgment until I see it in person!

£450 for a B&O iPad Dock however, is just spot on and a no brainer to twenty somethings with a bit of disposable income, a love of apple products and an eye for quality and design.

As one of Beoworld's resident twentysomethings, I'm totally sold.Yes - thumbs up

We all use IPads at work as we can sift through all our manuals, and infrequently when sat with bugger all to do or in our hotel we watch films on them. But lugging round a 1 kg speaker dock wouldn't really be that appealing even if it wasn't just being lugged around in a flight bag.

I agree... It seems to me that you may as well get a Beolit 12 or beosound 8. The construction of the A3 doesn't really seem to be that great (lots of cheap looking plastic), and it's not exactly portable being heavy and relatively thick... They would have done well to use some metal. After all they OWN a plant that manufactures aluminum. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but from my initial impression I am not that impressed. B&O of all companies can do a lot better.

There are lot of 20 somethings working for my publishing company and I can assure you most of them think £499 is a huge amount of money to spend on an iPad....never mind some speakers to simply enhance the sound. I guess, Phoenix Shaw, you have more disposable income than most 20 somethings :)

Indeed, most of them pay £500 for a TV these days.

Sadly I just do not believe there are enough people who want to enhance the iPad sound, who are prepared to take the speakers with them *and* pay the £450 purchase price. If I was after a device for my iPad, I'd get the BS8.

A3 looks strange...

Why would you like to make the iPad bigger?

How about a pair of headphones? Better sounding and cheaper. Oh, and they fit in your pocket!

Too long to list....

My guess is that you won't be using your iPad as an iPad after that, but only as a sort of mini TV or media receiver. It is one of the only "dock" that allows you to place the iPad in portrait mode on a table and watch a movie... with a better sound.

I meant landscape! All the others are in portrait which isn't great for watching movies.

When i first saw the A3 i thought it would look good on the end of my kitchen bench.  I use my ipad in the kitchen and when i'm sitting at the counter i sometimes watch a movie.  Having this would beat plugging in headphones on the end of the bench.

But i could think other people may have it in their man caves / garages instead of the old stereo or boombox.

I think there are few good uses to it, just have to open your mind i spose.

Just my $0.02 :-)

Or simply connect your iPad direct to your Beolab (you can find a box for that on the web); I do that with BL3; a great soud!!!

I sincerely hope that would not be the case, or B&o can chalk up another NO SALE.
