Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so apologies if I'm in the wrong group. I have a Beomaster 900M which has been in my family since it was purchased new in London. It still has the matching Beovox 1000 speakers.
The FM/AM receiver work very well and the speakers are quite loud. However when I try and connect a turntable the output is barely audible even when the volume is turned up. I have read somewhere that some Beomaster 900's needed a phono preamp fitted between the turntable and the amp. Is it possible I require one to obtain decent volume?
The turntables are a Thorens TD 165 and Marantz TT220 which both work fine through other amps.
Thanks

Yes you do. Back in the day, most turntables either had a ceramic pickup that didn't need a preamp, or had one built in.

It depends on the BM900 version, really. Some Beomaster 900 has RIAA installed from factory in the form of a small board sitting right at thebackside of the DIN socket.
Open and look or just connect up and try.
Martin
He did try and it would appear he needs a RIAA. I suggest getting a cheap external one as sourcing an original internal one could be tricky unless Martin has one!?
Some of the later Beomasters have a switchable Phono socket but not the 900 as far as I am aware.
