Hi,

I have a Beosystem 7000 connected to an Avant DVD via a Beolink 1611 converter in my living room. I would like to set up a link-room with IR eye and passive speakers in the adjacent kitchen. After looking at the documentation, I see that the Avant is actually connected to the TV/AUX connector on my Beomaster and that the MCL for a linked system would be connected to Speakers 2 via some kind of Y-Adapter.

My questions would be:

1. should I connect the link-room to the Speakers 2 connector, i.e. with a second MCL-ML Converter? Or can I use the connection coming out of the Avant's 1611 converter with a Masterlink splitter?

2. If I use the Speakers 2 for the linked system, will it still work if the Avant is the Audio-Master?

3. If I use the Speakers 2 for the linked system, where could I get the Y-adapter? I'm handy with a soldering iron, provided I can find the right DIN connectors.

4. total Newbie question: Is it possible to listen to music on the linked room while watching TV in the living room? This is important to me as I have small children and would like to be able to retreat to the kitchen when they watch cartoons.

Thanks,

Brian

I had a similar system in my last house, with a BC9500 connected to a BV3 and then an MCL extension in the dining room.  This was the full system: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/members/guyowen/files/New-schematic.jpg.aspx

In answer to your questions: (by the way, do you have speakers into the speaker 1 socket of the BM7000?)

Q1: You can do either. The advantage of using ML is that you can have different volumes in the main and link room. Disadvantage of ML is that you either need active speakers or a Beolink Passive in the Link room, hence more expensive.

Q2: Yes.

Q3: You don't need a Y-adapter. You simply need the correct 3-pin speaker connectors. Try Sounds Heavenly (link below) or AVA Services. (http://www.avaservices.co.uk/)

Q4: Yes.

I hope this helps!

I would go for a MCL solution aka X-tra Speakers kit - you can still get them second (or third) hand - if you have your speakers connected to the Avant (or none).

This way you use the amp in the 7000 for the speakers in the link room, and you can have individual sources (and volume level) from the tv and the link room.

It is a classical B&O setup (almost vintage)

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Thanks for the quick answers. I like it when the less-expensive solution is the *best* one. Smile I had the misunderstanding at the beginning that MCL was a line-level signal, such as the output from the TV/AUX plug or like Masterlink. I see now that it's speaker-level signal, not much different than just connecting a pair of speakers directly to Speaker 2 on my Beomaster.

So for my understanding, if the Avant is mode-2 audio master and the BM7000 is Mode 0, the BM7000 will still respond to link commands from the MCL controller? That is I could be watching TV in the living room and listening to music in the kitchen ... with a "poor-man's" independent volume control?

I currently have no external speakers yet. I am listening to audio on the Avant's speaker which is surprisingly good for a TV. I am planning on purchasing a pair of Pentas very soon. I was thinking of getting some smaller Redlines for the kitchen, such as RL35s. I haven't made up my mind on whether I want to connect the Pentas to the BM7000 or the Avant. But it sounds like for this setup to work with "independent" volume control, I should connect the Pentas to the TV, which would give me the ability later on to have a 5.1 setup.

One final question:

With this setup, would it be possible to mute the speakers in the kitchen while listening in the living room? Or should I think about installing a mute-switch between the BM7000 and the X-tra Speaker kit?

The more obvious solution would be:

Connect the BS7000 to a Beolink Converter T1611(powerlink, datalink) Connect the T1611 and the Avant DVD with Masterlink cable. Split the Masterlink cable (junction box) and connect the MCL-ML converter in the other room. There you can connect passive speakers to this converter.

Point 4: Yes

Presuming you have a IR eye connected to the MCL-ML you can independable regulate the volume and the on/off in the kitchen.
