Just something to note, the floor stand goes for more than $350 on places like eBay, usually pushing 500 bucks. As for the rest, even though I have a BS9000 Mk I I don't know, mine has not had many problems. The glass fell off of mine years ago, early ones had problems with how the glass was bonded to the hinges, but hasn't had any problems since I had it repaired.
The CD would be the most problematic I think, as supposedly the lasers are not made any more, but if you could get it up to snuff cosmetically it would still make a great audio master/radio/aux in (I use a Playmaker to stream to mine). They are works of art.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
You would probably need to spend upwards of a $1000 to get it in shape. I have an MKII and had to replace the laser last year, and that was somewhere between $500-$600 at an authorized repair shop. You may also have other unknown issues that could add to the cost. I see MKIIs and MKIIIs listed at a reasonable price these days, and it would be preferable to have a MKIII for net radio.
On the other hand $350 is the price for a used stand, so you may want to pull the trigger as in the worse case you would have a stand.

Okay. So I went ahead and purchased it this morning.
Jeff, I was seriously thinking about just using it as a "work of art" and mainly using the aux with apple airplay and a dac if a good cleaning doesn't get the cd player working
I took the screws off to the hinges to remove the door. I feel confident that I can glue the hinge and glass together again myself.
I suppose the major issue now is the hinge attached to the system. Like I said, the hinge is locked in the open position and I can't seem to mobilize it. Moderate pressure does not move the hinge inward. It makes me wonder if there's something stuck in there.
Does anyone have experience with this issue?
Much appreciated!
I don't quite understand what this hinge is...is the door hinge or something else?
Only one hinge is a motor driven, the upper one. The other is just a hinge with a spring. You can glue back the glass.
The laser cab be replaced or fixed.
I had a chance to disassemble the unit and reseat the left door holder before I read root and Beobuddy's post that there is a spring. I did not see a spring anywhere remotely close.
Do you think it will work without the spring? How hard would it be to install the spring, provided I can get it.
Also, I will glue the door back on the brackets but all my research came back with a high recommendation to use epoxy.

root, is there any brand glue you'd use. There seems to be so many mixed reviews on glue for glass, include rearview mirror glue.
Thanks again.
It will be more of an audio master at this point. Parts for the electrical and CD components for Mk1s are exceedingly hard to get anymore. There's a similarly good deal on the local craigslist where I'm visiting for a complete Mk1 with stand for 800.00 in I assume working condition, but it is a 220v model that will have to be converted. I don't think it's worth fiddling with as it is just a Mk1. But they'll sell the stand for 200 and I might knock them down to 100 and take that.
Best 9000s to get seem to be the Mk2s which have a huge market of replacement lasers out there and still have available electrical parts, while the Mk3 lasers, while still available from B&O, are supposedly no where else once that supply dries up (at least as of several months ago, last I looked into 9000s).
Also, as far as I know, the glass replacements for Mk1s were not just a goodwill thing, they were a full on recall, so I'd imagine if you have one with separated glass (which shouldn't have happened to any of the later units) you could theoretically just get a B&O dealer to replace it.
Agreed. I like the idea of using it as an audio master since most of my music is streamed anyway.
The left door holder spring (or lack thereof) is my biggest hurdle now. It seems like such a specialty part that it may no longer be available. Even if I get my hands on it, I have no idea how it attaches.
Perhaps I don't need the spring?!
In any case, barring the spring and re-gluing the glass, I think I'm all set.
One of the big advantages of using it for an audiomaster is the ability to control bass, treble, loudness, and balance from your listening chair using the remote control. A big advantage over the "purist" approach of no tone controls at all.
I almost never use the CD player in mine, but I have a set of the B&O demo CDs with the pretty art on each one that they used as demo discs in B&O stores. A weird and wide variety of music, and they look gorgeous in the player. Even if you never use the CD player you should get some really attractive discs to load into it. Might as well make it a real artwork.
Well it looks like I just bought a new laser unit (the entire unit) for the Beosound 9000 off eBay for $80USD.

Has anyone ever changed this before? I've taken apart my beosound 4000 to solder a new ambient light. But that was with some youtube instructions. Since there's no youtube videos on this, I'll have to follow the service manual.
I don't want to spoil your party, but how do you know that this is the right laserunit? There are different units used. Only the right laser will work.
And the mentioned laser unit isn't a B&O one. The CDM12.6 is just one of them used by B&O. The original B&O units have a black plate on top of the unit which hides the pickup element. Only the lens is visible.
Good point beobuddy. I guess I'm not 100% sure it's the right laser unit but it is listed for the MKI. In any case it would just be icing on the cake if all worked well.
Yesterday, I tinkered with the Beosound 9000 a little more and reattached the spring to the left door holder. I used a piece of string to pull the spring out to reattach. I hope I have done it right. The door holder is now always in the open position now but once the glass is reattached (oh yea, I re-glued the glass to the hinges!) it closes due to the weight of the glass.
Previously, the sledge would pickup a CD but not spin. A few seconds later the read out shows "CD Pause"
After cleaning the laser lens with water and a Q-tip and running a few test modes I can now get CDs to spin but after a few seconds it stops and reads "CD ERROR 2".
Thank you again! This has been exciting!
Yep, one of the holders is always in the open position if the glass is removed.
There a number of things you should do. Those black chambers are cosmetic. Only one hides an infrared-eye.
Clean the complete bracket surface on the side without the driven the driven hinge. There are 3 infrared -eyes,
Without powerlink attached, the bs9000 will always be in option 0. After every on/off switch it will be in option 0.
Clean the tacho sensor at the big wheel. Be VERY carefull with static electricity. These parts are extreemly sensitive (my experience)
Place a new belt in the hingemechanisme
Clean the sledge sensor at it's bottom. Clean the white parts. Also VERY sensitive.
Inside the sledge there is a cd positions Led and LDR. clean both.
The hinge is pressed down, but comes up when you release it.
Thank you BeoBuddy for the tips and taking the trouble to photograph the part in question.
The image was extremely helpful since I didn't know exactly where the spring was to connect but I'm relieved I did it correctly because it's not symmetrical with the top door holder.
okay! I've restore my BeoSound. Everything looks great except the CD don't play which is minor for me since I'll be using the Aux mostly.
Thank you everyone for your help!

Good to hear, enjoy it!
What CD mechanism is used with yours?
Does the sledge work? Does it (un)load the CD properly?
Would be nice if it would work completely, wouldn't it?
I agree! It would be good to know if the laser you bought actually works...

I guess it's going to be a gamble.
All mechanical functions seem to work.
Upon the CD stopping it sounds like it hits something on the sledge.
Also, I don't know the CD mechanism employed with this unit. After I took off the top part of the sledge, I couldn't remove some screw because I was afraid of stripping the head.

LOL, I remember that screw. Man that was a pain in the ass to remove.
Hi,
I felt obligated to give an update on my BeoSound 9000.
I moved in the past week so I haven't had time to mess around with it. But, visually, it's back to showroom condition.
Thanks everyone!
