Jeff:

symmes:

How did they get DJ Khaled? Don't like it?  Who knows or cares, if it sells stuff?

I have to say I don't like the colors, kind of garish, but I think they will appeal to a certain market segment. The colors and branding are only a bother to me if they stop making the traditional colors I like, otherwise if it can drag a few more people, and people of a different market segment, into the brand all the better. B&O is making a lot of changes, they have to change if they are to survive, and expanding the market is desperately needed. To date, most Play customers I think have been B&O devotees, I don't think they pulled in as many new ears as they'd have expected or liked.

Face it, branding with "cool" hiphop/DJ type artists is the rage today, and it obviously must work. We will see how B&O does with it, but without a lot of stuff like this, we will not be seeing new products and things we want. It's a tough market, you have to take business where you can get it.

I don't disagree about needing new customers but branding your best headphones like this mean they are unlikely to be taken seriously by anyone in the market for good, "normal" 'phones in the same way that a potential Sennheiser 650 buyer wouldn't be seen dead considering Beats.

You can only hope this years fashionistas buy enough to offset the image damage it will do to the H6 overall in the broader market.

Will it really hurt traditional sales? I'm not sure it will, but time will tell I guess. And if it loses X traditional types, and gets nX new buyers...

I just wonder if the types who follow this DJ will be disappointed in the fact that the H6 is accurate and not an exaggerated boom boom set of cans. Now if they changed the sonics to tailor the cans to this market that would really disappoint me.

I read some interesting speculation about Apple and Dr. Dre...that they are going to use the Lightning connector to connect directly to headphones marked by Dre, and eliminate the standard headphone mini-jack, which would require an adapter to use anything but their cans. A move by Apple, not an unexpected one given their history, to try and slice out a part of the market and make it Apple only, cut out other companies. Similar to how they stomped on existing products when they went to the Lightning connector in the first place. This is completely in line with what I've seen of Apples playbook, whether this is a bridge too far is open to question, time will tell I guess, like for B&O.

Food without seasoning is "accurate", but pretty bland.

Most people will only use these for listening to Spotify/Itunes etc, not studio master recordings so a little extra bass would help to be honest. My H6's are very good, but i prefer the sound of my various friends headphones, probably because they do have more of a bass influence. If thats the customer taste, then who is the chef to tell them what to eat?

Just an opinion, and i hope it works out for them like it has for Bose and Beats. $4 Billion Huh?

Reminds me of Lotus cars taking on Swizz Beatz as creative director, to me this does not add depth but confusion to a product at this price point, it was the same in my eyes as the Pepsi range of H6's.

B&O are smart and they need to market them selves in the same manner.

I finally went and looked at the vid, no wires! Funny! Big Smile

I guess I'm just not hip, as I don't grok either the music or the whole scene these guys, but then again I'm old and square (I'm so square I still say square!).Surprise

Never ever, will I do that, I will stay with my Sennheisers and my vintage. But my son (22 years old), latest buy in headphones was a pair of expensive Beats, a lot of bass and the rest OK but no more. He will line up for the "We The Best" phones.

And its a good way for B&O to get into the younger generation market. The problem will be that B&O dont make boom-boom items but quality sound. The music from Ipods and MP3 players is not, and the Beat like headphones compensate for that with the extra boom-boom.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I have a few thoughts.  I am not so old that I do not understand what B&O is trying to do but I really do find it an odd marketing scheme.  Can you imagine Tue introducing this product and DJ Khled to the usual B&O crowd at the newer store in New York City.?  Maybe they will play DJ's newest single..

You have to look in Beoplay on FB.  It shows it added yesterday.  I grabbed the wrong link. Sorry for the wrong link but I was watching DJ's new vid.  Beoplay is calling this a new collab.  This is huge!

I did an unscientific survey exiting my commute this morning.

I passed well over 200 people in the scrum to the exit.

Saw 30+ ear buds - about 50% looked like Apple iBuds ie with mics.

Saw only 1 headphone ... and it was a beats.

The number of head phones was unusually low ... I would usually see a few and most are Beats.

In over a decade of commuting I have only seen two other A8s - and even I now wear iBuds because of the convenience of the mic.

elephant the ratio on my London commute is about the same or slightly higher, most seem to wear their respective generic ear buds (next being sennheiser) with can wearers being mainly Beats, Sony, and AKG. Last year for some reason I did see more B&W & Harmon Kardon wearers.

On my travels I have seen one person with H6's on but more wearing A8's. I rarely use my H6's out of the house as they do not offer sound cancelling which I need to counter the rattling trains and I have also been garrotted once two many times by someone exiting the train carriage quickly and catching my headphone cable.

I normally use my Zik's outside the home due to their practicality but over the past two years have only seen 2 others wear them so at this higher price bracket maybe the usage differs?

OR I just don't get driven around in a Maybach from pool house to pool house !

MM goooood to hear your H6's play some good vibes.

Can B&O remind me why I should keep bothering paying nearly 50% more for exactly the same thing in a store? The same goes for my A9.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bang-Olufsen-B-O-H6-Limited-Edition-by-Ricarso-Akn-Headphones-329-RRP-NEW-/301234971787?pt=UK_AudioVideoElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_HiFiSpeakers&hash=item462300e48b

I'm all for a good deal in second hand goods, but this is ridiculous. Just looking at my H6, Beolit 12and A9 purchased within the last 12 months, I could have saved £750 by not shopping at our local dealer. A dealer I'm happy to buy at with the full price may I just add. It just doesn't sit well with loyal customers.

You can interpret these sale prices as a tacit admission that Tue and his management team have screwed up on either pricing, production quantities or both, IMHO.

Lucky I'm not in DJ Khaled's position, that Maybach resale value would have deflated quicker than a hot air balloon.

Just visited the local Apple Store for a long cable for the iPad to Beolit as the airplay has never happened. The headphone they stock , such Dre are in the H6 level of price . I'm waiting for the pair of limited edition i3s Beocare are sending us to compensate for missing the recent £170 discount and the free Smart TV upgrade we missed on the V1 !

This H6 Edition does not seem to play a big role for B&O - no official announcement and only a 'well buried away' entry on the B&O Play Facebook site....

....and we are already on page 5 with our pros and cons.

I wonder how many of these were produced/sold.

Amazed the rappers and their ilk aren't lining up outside the bno stores for some delightfully subtle gold coloured tv's and speakers , who on earth would make something as crass and tasteless  as that though ??
