With big plans of what and whom I wanted to visit, on my first trip to DK in 8 years, my wife and I went to DK for 2 weeks in May this year. I had plans to go to Struer to visit the museum, at the same time get together with Friedmet and Dennis, then later go down to Steffen to check his museum and inaugurate his BeoBar. And as a last crown on the trip, visit and see our master Martin and there pick up a gift, a Master de Luxe Present  608.

Good plans, but not so, my extensive DK and German family told me otherwise. I have my sister in Horsens DK, more than 40 cousins, some 4 nieces and their children, uncles and aunts in DK. 3 sons living in Germany, and there also 7 grand children. Nearly all of them wanted to see me, so I had to let go of my B&O plans, to keep the family at peace.

Except for Martin I only saw Søren Hammer in Aarhus, nice to see a guy you have been writing with, and have seen a lot on the forum, in the flesh. For the first time in my life I saw a pair of Bvox 150s placed in Sørens student "apartment", the room is about 15 M2, we got a nice talk and listened to soft music, but time was a ***, so too short, but thanks a lot Søren, for the coffee and most of all for the original B&O reel, for, yes, my R to R BC 2000. Søren is busy studying and working, I met him between school and work, just after my own son had presented his thesis in Aarhus.

After my visit with Søren, the family called, so on the last Saturday of our journey we could see Martin and his wife, also here very short as we had to catch a flight. We had a nice talk over a morning coffee with the very nice DK wienerbrød, I got the Master de Luxe, and went to the hotel to pack it nicely in a new, for the occation bought, duffelbag. The Master de luxe fitted perfectly in the bag with Styropor packed all around it, supported with dirty underwear. Total weight at check in 22 Kg.

In another suitcase I packed a BM 1000, there was supposed to be a BG 1000 there too, but my DK son fell in love with that one so I had to leave it in his hands.

Upon arrival in Mexico city only one suitcase arrived, the one with my BM 1000, in there as luck will we also packed some cartridges from Axel. We waited in the terminal until it was clear that my Master de Luxe suitcase would not arrive, filled out the paperwork for lost luggage, and hoped it would be delivered to our home one of the next days.

I have traveled more than most people the last 40 years, and only one time lost a suitcase, sometimes my luggage didnt arrive with me, but was always found and delivered to me later, where ever I was.

This time not so, and now one month later the airline paid me USD 270.00 for 1 lost bag. I claimed USD 365.00, but dont have the patience to fight them, I just get angry and very uneducated, when I have to speak with them.

This was to be my first valve radio, it was given to me by Martin, I have been looking forward to it for nearly a year, I was so happy, leaving Martin with the Master de Luxe under my arm, I packed it with all my knowledge and love, AND SOME MOTHER^^^^^^ LOOSE IT, threw it away or stole it.

It took me about one month to come down from getting angry about it, now I still get angry because I have to write about it. ITS JUST NOT RIGHT.

Sorry for the language. I just cant stop fretting about it.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hello Søren,

Oh boy, what a story. The language was entirely appropriate!

That was truly terrible to wait for nearly a year to receive a gift from the Oracle of Struer, which truly IS an honour, and to have the airlines lose it.

On top of that, I know our group was looking forward to meeting you, and yes family comes first, BUT….

At least you managed to bring home the Beomaster 1000. That doesn’t begin to make up for the lost Master de Luxe.

Søren my friend, believe me had it been ME I would have used a lot worse language. Stupid airlines.

This is a tragic story indeed Søren. I am really sorry to hear about the airline mishap. Their compensation to you for their mistake is ridiculous. They should replace your lost Master de Luxe.

hi Soren, sorry to hear about your lost case, this is my worst fear, you own something for months but can:t get to use it, then you take all possible precautions in wrapping it securely only for the airline to lose it, truly heartbreaking

Awful to loose such an item for sure.

A  friend of mine had a bag lost in Bolivia..... 2 months later it arrived in Ireland.

With all the cost cutting between airlines globally and the use of contractors its unfortunately inevitable.

Sorry for your loss, Søren - maybe it will turn up someday (like the bag of the friend of valve1).

Next time you go for DK best not inform the family of your plans Big Smile

At least Soren :

1) your alive (only your luggage is "lost"),

2) you had a nice trip in DK. Lucky you.

Very nice story about your trip Soren but unfortunately without happy end Sad

I can imagine how disappointing you were and still are. Coming home and bringing your first old tube radio with you would have been the great satisfaction for you and "compensation" for your lost B&O plans in DK. But be happy, you visited your big family and even few B&O friends, thats very nice.

And the Master de Luxe will come to you, sooner or later, on this or that way, for sure Wink

Hello Søren.

Nice to hear about your trip to Denmark.
Too bad you didn't have time to go to the Southern part of DK to visit my BeoBar. But two weeks is a short time when you have a big Family...
Maybe next time.

Sorry to hear about your lost Receiver. I can understand you're upset.

Best wishes from here.

Hi Søren,

You know (of course you don’t) but my Beocord 8004 was lost for over a month at the UPS sort facility.

Repeated calls to UPS produced nothing.

Went through all the paperwork to file a lost claim and THEN they found it.

Now let’s be honest here, you value your Master de Luxe highly, but in the end it is just a radio and I imagine with a European plug. What possible value could that have to the average Mexican?

Personally, I’d say not much, so you SHOULD get your Master de Luxe eventually.

The only “flaw in the slaw” is you accepted payment from the airline, so now it is officially their radio.

If I were you, I’d make it clear to them that if/when your Master de Luxe is found that you REALLY want it and will gladly return their compensation payment.

The key is polite but FIRM.

Like my Beocord when it arrived the minute I touched the box I could hear all the broken glass inside and the UPS driver was really trying to make a quick escape.

Not so fast. I stopped him and made him watch as I opened the box to reveal the black glass panel shattered. The driver signed a statement that the Beocord was broken in transit and that left them no wiggle room when it came to paying for a replacement.

Call the airline, ask for the name of the person you are talking to and take their name. Write it down so you can’t forget and the details of the call.

Tell them how truly important this Master de Luxe is to you. Then give them a week and call back, ask to speak to the same person. They might not be available, but there WILL be a file on you and the customer service person will be able to read the notes on the case.

Lastly, and this is über important, if you are not completely satisfied with the service you receive from the customer service representative, by all means ask to speak to a SUPERVISOR.

They hate this because it takes your claim to a new and higher level. You will have someone involved who can make things happen that perhaps a customer service representative can’t.

Once your claim hits a supervisor’s desk they want it resolved, period. A customer service representative will be “rated” on how they handle the call. However a supervisor is held to a higher standard and too many unresolved cases will result in a harsh review or termination.

This is important to you, follow through. What have you got to lose? What you will actually have is a real chance to get your Master de Luxe back….. it’s more than worth the effort!

Good luck my friend!

Jeff
