I notice that the BeoPlay A8 is current out of stock with B&O and was wondering if anyone knew whether a MKIII was coming.

Currently its not at parity with the A9, missing Spotify.

Does anyone have the low down - apart from the airplay support and removable bases- on what was upgraded from Beosound 8 to A8, to A8 MK II?

Appreciate any insight here. Thanks.

There's currently a discount on Beolit 12 and rumours of an iPad-like product. The latter , known as the Moment I believe , may be the replacement for the Beolit and A8 ?

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

That would be new!

The BeoLit and the A8 are standalone products - and B&O Play products.

The Moment is a NL-compatible AudioPlayer/System - at least according to what untill now is known about it.

BeoPlay A8 mark 2 supports DLNA as well as AipPlay. Mark1 is Airplay only.

My dealer in Stockholm currently offers a 30 percent discount on A8s so I am also a bit curious whether there's something new in the pipeline. I already have a BS8 (unfortunately with the hideous lightning adapter after upgrading from iPhone 4 to 5s) so I really can't justify the expense but must admit that I am tempted.

Maybe B&O has realised that the days are over for products tied up to Apple-only.
Think about the short-lived A3, made for a specific iPad model...
A Beolit that's made for iPhone - while Android phones are the most sold Worldwide...
And the Beoplay 8/A8, where they had to modify/make an adapter, because Apple decided to change their connector to lightning.
And now the EU will require a common standard for all cell-phone chargers. (Micro-USB)

Products (like the A9), that can  be used wireless with all platforms is the future.

I agree. While I think that the type of clientele who would purchase B&O products probably are by and large iOS device owners, the technology and licensing are so inexpensive that it doesn't make any sense to narrow your customer base down to any single platform if you can support as many as possible with a *quality* standard.

I wouldn't be too surprised if both the BeoLit and the A8 were discontinued. Moment is a system that will require additional BeoLab's, and is an extension of the Essence concept - not a BeoPlay product. The new BeoPlay product is a much smaller audio system compared to the A8, expected release is this coming Fall.

Hi Roger,

thanks for that information - looking forward to see/hear that.

Still I do like the A8 - and would like to see it continued.

Could you turn your telescope south, across Skagerrak, and tell us what you see about the announce and ship of the Moment ?

I think most of the info is already out - on BeoWorld.

The product is ready for launch, but there is a major issue as they haven't reached an agreement with Spotify - for several reasons, one is the ability to use your account on several platforms (a bit like watching a DVD over BeoLink, distributing it to several receivers). The Moment will not fly without Spotify Connect IMHO.

The product is very nice to look at, with its wooden finish (several finishes are possible, as with the table remote for the Essence - at some point in time, at least). When placed on the charger/table stand, it looks like a piece of art - when you pick it up you can flip it over to discover a "BeoCenter 2"-interface next to the LCD-screen. This makes manouvering a lot easier compared to the Essence. You can do the same with your (newer) BeoVision today, so it will not be a typical audio+video master setup - but some customers would like to listen to music without having to turn on a 55" screen to navigate, I guess. They have taken the MOTS feature to streaming, sort of: the Moment will learn what type of music you listen to at certain times of the day, and stream it when you touch the "wood" - giving knock on wood a different meaning. How this will work in a houshold with several users will be interesting. In short, the Moment is the Essence with a display. The price point is expected to be 15.000 kroner / £1.500. The Danes have closed the shop for their summer vacation, so we do not expect this product to ship this month - but it should be out in August (the plan was May...). But we are afraid that it will sit on a shelf and wait for the dealer meeting in September, when the new Play-product will be revealed as well.

Thanks Roger  - one (very important) thing has to be clarified.

You wrote above that the Moment "will require additional BeoLab's".

Will it be possible to hook it up to a BV via NL in order to use the speakers of the tv - instead of connecting  speakers directly?

The Moment can be hooked up and used in the same way as the Essence, which is rather limited. For your BV, either catX or wifi would be the preferred connection - as it will show up just as any of the other products in the listing of the BV (today it will pick up any V1's, BeoMaster 5 etc). The Moment will be able to provide its connent(s) to other sources in your setup like BeoLit 12, A9, Essence and integrate them into a BeoLink-setup. Sort of. This will require an sw upgrade to work, but it will make the integration of all your newer B&O stuff rather elegant. If they can get Spotify to go along with this idea, the Moment should see daylight next month or the next. Since most of, if not all, B1 owners have seen and tried the Moment I'm a bit surprised there are no pictures out...

So if they get Spotify to go along with this, we will suddenly get a Sonos killer?!

Do you know how it will connect with Beolit 12, A9 and so on...? Only airplay?

Still struggling to understand what Roger wrote about the integration!

Guess it is just me being slow-minded Confused

The B1-dealers probably are not allowed to tell anything.

Who presents the first picture of the BS Moment?

That is B&O's master plan - to get a stylish alternative to Sonos with improved sound.

The main system will basically pick up anything on your LAN and use the same system to distribute it your B&O "link" receivers.

Like for the Essence, I don't understand a world of what you are talking about.

A system with ethernet connection is enough for me, no multiple wifi connections.

Maybe the Moment will do that in case my, easy to use and understand BS 9000, as a problem one day.

Sounds like the piece of equipment we have all being waiting for to tie all the new pieces of kit together!

Will the Moment let you select one song / playlist for the bathroom and another song / playlist for the living area, or would you need a moment or two?

Interesting, I was just talking to a local B&O product-tester and he says he's expecting his 'Moment' shortly (he can't, of course, talk about it though). Based on his experience of product-testing the Avant (in March), it can only be a couple of months away for sure.

That sounds interesting as well... has it already been presented to dealers?

Any infos on the design? Will it be rechargeable?

This concept looks very nice : http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/02/07/digital-sound-is-sexy/
