Good afternoon,

I really do try not to post inane questions about Beogram electronics well beyond my expertise, but today, I think I've earned it:

Started the day with a dead 4000, a service manual and a soldering iron, and I'll end the day having made some progress— first up was that the top reed switches (inside 2MS1) were broken, so I replaced them (but not without a problem I'd like to get to in a moment); it now switched on, but wouldn't switch off: this was cured by replacing 2TR1,3,4 and 5.

It did switch on, and worked well, but only when I disconnected the second reed switch down on PCB2 (which also meant the motor stopped working): left connected, the lights all dim when the arm moves down, and as soon to it's lowered position, the set switches off.

firstly, I'd like to know if anyone can point out the circuit responsible, the circuit which is controlled by the same switch as the motor power and joins PCB1 on a grey wire near 1R19— even a general area to look would be helpful, but I think I'm looking for the components controlling the arm's movement up and down.

Secondly, when I was replacing the reeds, the wire on the coil snapped and I've lost the end: I'm referring to one of the two tape-wrapped coils magnetising the reeds. If anyone knows of a spare, a patch or a replacement of a size that fits, I'd appreciate it greatly as it will save me having to rewind a lot of wire.

I'm approaching you experts as my luck has run out for the day — a thoroughly enjoyable one it was, though, getting to know this wonderful table.

Please, thank you,

Pete

Perhaps Dillen (Martin) may be able to shed some light?
