Ive been hearing much about the new Avant and just went to the NYC B&O store to check it out. Fancy piece of kit but i would never trade it or any other TV for my current TV! (cept maybe a 103" but thats impractical)

I recently bought the an MK VI beovision 7-55 (Bluray and 3D) with beolab 7-4 and the floor stand. And i can say, till this day its the most beautiful looking television ive seen, period. And the picture is stunning. I used to have a 10-40 and it pales in comparison. Together with a white pair of Beolab 9's guests are astounded when they visit.

The picture is amazing (the black levels are scary), the sound is amazing. With the back panel, wires are hidden and the stand serves perfectly for mounting my apple TV's. I also love the little touches here and there - ie the right upperhand corner display for source/volume etc. Ability to tilt back and forth, the inconspicious bluray player and the way it neatly slides out...... but i digress. I like the other TV's in the B and O line but this one is somehting special. perhaps other owners can share their thoughts...

Beovision 7-55 Bluray, Beolab 9 (white), Beosound Encore, Beolab 4000, Beosound 9000 (White special Edition), Beo4, A9 Keyring

You said it better than I ever could. The blacks(which lcd's can't do apparently) are amazing.

I realize that comment was tongue in cheek, but when done *properly*, LCDs are capable of some impressive feats. I briefly had a Sharp Elite 60 inch and even with my general dislike of LCD tech, I was astonished by the picture on that set. The only reason I returned it is because of a yellow hotspotting issue on flesh tones (it had already been discontinued by that time so I couldn't try another one). The reason why, quite simply, is because it had a very precise full array dimming system.

I see the BV7 is also a local dimming set, and I presume full array given the size of the rump on it, so if I ever do get a BV, this will probably be the one I go for as well. Sure to only get cheaper on the second-hand market as the Avant gains popularity and other models come along. I've been observing all of these TV threads the past few weeks, and while right now I'm quite pleased with our 60 inch Samsung F8500 plasma, if anything happens to it the BV7 would be the one on my list after seeing all the pros and cons of the different available models.

As I've said before, anyone who took their recently-purchased £15K top-of-the-range backlit BV7-55 MK2 and decided to take a staggering £10K hit, to 'upgrade' to an Avant, must need their head looking at :) The BV7-55 is an incredible audio/video experience. Frankly, the best. The picture can't be beaten by any other TV (including the Avant) and the 7.6 is the best standalone centre speaker available.

The BV11 is a different beast. It's a work of art and combined with a sub, offers a great audio/visual experience. Not BV7-55 level, but I prefer the shape and design of the BV11. I prefer the design of the Avant over the BV7-55, but it's no way near BV7-55 level yet!

I've had my BeoVision 7-55 3D since 2011 and agree that it has the best picture all-around. I'm hoping to add a BeoVision Avant 55 to my setup for the master bedroom. I was originally looking for a BV 7-40 to fill that role, but with the look and price of the new Avant 55, one can't go wrong. The BV 7-55 will stay in my living room as my primary television, regardless.

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

Completly agree with all the comments. The BV 7-55 3D is a masterpiece of TV. Wouldn't trade it for any other TV. Of course, it doesn't have all the Web/homemedia features of the more recent TVs, but it's not an issue as you can connect an Apple TV and and/or a multimedia server.

Pros: all was said above already - and I agree that it is an amazing tv.

Cons: it is big, it is HUGE- it overrules anything else in a room. It is/was VERY expensive.

Yes, indeed. This may be the only CON... It may also be one of the reasons that led to the discontinuation of this product as the sales were declining.

I guess the "too big" thing must be an issue more in the rest of the world, as we like our TVs as big as we can possibly can get them over on these shores. It also may not be ultra thin, or frameless like so many of the "fad" TVs out there today, but I don't think any of the BVs really are. It looks fine to me in the photo above.

It is not the 55" that are too big - it's the tv!

It was originally designed for a 32" screen.

If you boost that to 55" it simply becomes too massive.

Too much glass - too little picture Crying

Ok, some people like that - I realize.

I just wanted to add my point of view to the conversation.

Fantastic! I couldn't agree more... there is a 'magic' in David Lewis' desgns and the BV7 is certainly a beautiful piece, very glad to read you're so happy when its put up against the chintsy newer screens (most of which i find utterly disappointing, the AVANT is the first screen in a while i've sat up and paid attention to).

By the way that setup looks fabulous, and wouldn't say its overly dominating at all, a beautiful and light-filled room, well done!

Yes :) (well, you did ask...!).

But it's not so bad if the room is designed as a 'TV room' or similar. Most people have their TV in their sitting room, where they entertain, so they don't want a TV to completely dominate that space. So, with that in mind, the TV is fine in the above room.

it is becoming a design challenge to make an oblong look interesting (the same with phones and tablets apart from their respective interface), remove the brand name/logo and you will struggle to recognise who the manufacture is and that can not be good for awareness.

hail B&O.

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Beautifully done! Now that is the kind of style I am talking about :)
Love the wood burner, and... the position of the BS9000 is just right. Well done! A nice uncluttered, neat space with lovely views.
It would be interesting to see how the BV7 looks aestehtically on the lower floor stand too, but it does look great as it is.

The 7-55 is indeed a beautiful TV, but as said you need the right room for it. The 7-40 was better proportioned. I almost bought one but then the 11-55 came out, and it was a better fit for my living room. And thinking about it I don't think the 7-55 would even have it into the service elevator in my building, as the 11-55 barely made it in. But great room in Belize,

i saw the Avant recently. Really great stand, but aesthetically the TV did not work for me. There were a number of BV11s in the store and they looked great with several different speakers. The Avant by comparison was just an uninteresting black rectangle.

Hi,

I have a Beovision 7-55 mark II (3D). I have compared this TV with both Beovision 12-65 and Beovision 11-55 and Beovision Avant 55. I have made the comparison with the same Bluray-movie (i.e the same input source). It is very clear that the Beovision 7-55 Mark II has the best picture when comparing with the other TV:s above. The "best" picture include: contrast, panning, accurate colours, refresh rate, and much more.

I have also compared the Beovision 12-65 with both Beosystem 3 and Beosystem 4. The Beosystem 3 is the winner when we talk about picture-quality. Picture is a little bit more sharp and deep with the Beosystem 3 compared with Beosystem 4.

I must say that according to my opinion, the BV 7-55 mark II is the best TV B&O ever made. But I understand that it isnt easy to sell this tv at the pricepoint they did. But Beovision Avant don´t have a better picture than an Samsung TV in the upper range.

I just hope that the new Avant 75-inch and 85-inch will have another screentype like the BV 7-55 (full-array LED).

Have nice Holiday!

Martin

That's a bit OTT Chris. The Avant is a stunning TV. My 'test' TV will be installed Thursday, so I'll report back, but I'm confident that it will be an impressive device and at a half-reasonable price. I really think it's an exaggeration to imply that the Avant is a failure. A few teething problems, yes, but this has happened plenty of times in the past. The BV10 had a fair few issues at launch and through the early part of it's life (I had to get the central motherboard replaced with a month of purchase and dust got under the panel), which were resolved.

Hello everyone,

I am fan of this forum since 2000 and follow many times the amazing articles that you all post.

I have read the many posts about BV 7-55. I was convinced that it is one of the best TVs B&O ever produced.

moxxey among many others has contributed a lot.

I recently bought the MK2 version probably one of the last produced with Serial number 2326XXXX.

Came with the original B&O close wall bracket. Question 1: Do I have to connect all speaker cables before I put it up on the wall?

Will I be able to connect (change) cables while the TV is on the wall? As you know is very heavy (75kg)

Question 2: I have BL Penta mk3, BL 8000, BL3 & Sub BL2. Center BL 7-2. What is the way best way to connect them all for best possible performance?

Thank you all in advance.

A great tv to have.

Connect and check all your speakers/cables before hanging it.

You will need help to hang it as its heavy.

Enjoy !

Thank you valve1 for your feedback.

Do you also know if I can connect 6 speakers?

2 front (Beolab PENTAS) 2 back (Beolab 8000) and 2 Beolab 3s in the "middle"

+ sub (Beolab 2) + Beolab 7-2 center.

Asking since at the back has 5 powerlink connections (not 6)

+ 1 for the Sub + 1 fro the center.

Please advice

Thank you all in advance.
