How would one change the color of the light on the BS9000 sled/CD player?

I always thought it would look really nice with a white LED in place of the normal filament bulb that they all shipped with.

As the lights on the Beosound 9000 display are LEDs, they only produce one specific wavelength of red light.  Hence, there is no way to change the colour using filters (as you would do with a conventional white light).  As Playdrv4me mentioned, a lot of people (myself included) are interested in fitting white LEDs to their 9000s (I suggested this to some of B&O's design team about 10 years ago!) but the work involved is fairly difficult.

If anyone can locate the correct LED dot matrix display in white for the sled, please let me know and I will attempt the swap, then post a "how to"!

PS. To avoid any confusion, I'm thinking mainly of changing the red LED lights on the front face of the sled, changing the light filaments that light up the disc to white LEDs should also be possible but personally I think this would look best if the LEDs were all changed to white at the same time.

Actually I need to clarify my question: I do not want to change the alpha-numeric display LEDs. Rather only the ambient incandescent light surrounding the CD mechanism/player itself.

Yes, me and Barry are referencing the lamp that is on the sledge itself, the one that illuminates the CD as it spins. I actually love the RED displays on the 9000, which is a vacuum FL display so there probably isn't any way to change that. 

I always noticed when I had my 9000s (I don't have any anymore) that the only thing to me, that let it down was the somewhat dingy yellow light cast by the sledge lamp. I know this has been a subject of contention here before and some have suggested that the original incandescent temperature bulb is the original and the best, but I'd prefer a nice white LED in that same spot (or if someone tried another color that looked good it would be interesting to see). 

These are just ordinairy light bulbs. 6,3V, 190mA. Maybe the can be ordered in different colours? (Just an idea?)

Maybe an option is to paint them with special glass paint? From years ago I remember these coloured light bulbs for model railroads.
