I finally drove from NY to VT today to pick up the Beocenter 9000 that I won on ebay 6 weeks ago. I drove 4 hours each way because I didn't want anything to happen to it if it were shipped by UPS, FEDEX, etc. only to find there's no sound. I set it up properly by using the manual, I've checked and re-checked my connections and they're all correct. I'm going to try a pair of headphones tomorrow and see what happened. I have to say that I am disappointed. I paid really good money for it. Also, it came with a Master Control 5500 that seems pretty useless as it doesn't connect that well even with new batteries. Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Robert
If I were the buyer I would have checked it out with headphones or speakers when I was there. And I'm a little surprised that the MCP 5500 is even compatible with it, as this was designed to operate the stacked Beosystem 5500 (or 6500/7000). A Beolink 1000 was the intended remote for the 9000 but a Beo4 would work fine as well. Did you try both sets of speaker outputs? Are you sure 'mute' isn't turned on? You're using passive speakers and are sure you hooked them up correctly? Let us know if headphones make a difference.

The MCP5500 is definitely not compatible with the BC9000. It will work for certain functions (selecting sources such as RADIO or TAPE) but anything more complex, and even the volume control, will not work properly. Hence the intermittent functioning is due to incompatibility, not a poor connection.
I plugged a pair of headphones in and I do have sound. All features are working accordingly. The only feature that doesn't work with the headphones is the mute function; I'm not sure if it was ever intended to be a function that worked with headphones. I called Bang and Olufsen on Madison Avenue in NYC to order a pair of original CX100 speaker cables to make sure that it's not the cables I purchased off eBay, which seem to be what I would call homemade. I'm going to buy a remote that will work with the 9000 but I'm not sure if I should buy the beo4 or 1000 - opinions? I should add why I didn't try the unit when I arrived at the sellers home. The seller lived in the middle of the woods alone in a very old house. Although he was a pleasant man I'm not one for entering a strangers home in the middle of the woods by myself. Plus he had it boxed and ready to go; that should have been my first clue but as I mentioned - I wasn't comfortable being in the home alone.
No, the mute function doesn't work with headphones (well, actually it should automatically activate when you plug the headphones in, but sound continues to come through the headphones).
Speaking of mute, did you try your speakers in the second pair of speaker outputs?
If you don't have any other B&O kit besides the Beocenter, get a Beolink 1000, it is better suited for the BC.

Robert, I can give you one BL1000. Only shipping costs has to be paid.

A common fault with the Beocenter 9000 is a defective mute relay.
To check the mute system you can plug your speakers into the SPK 2 sockets which are not muteable. If you now get sound as normal then the mute relay is faulty.
Personally I would use a Beolink 1000

Joeyboygolf - I plugged the speakers into #2 and I now have sound / music! THANK YOU! It's nice to be part of a blog where the members know what they are talking about! I can't thank you guys enough! I think that in a month or two I will take it in for a bench test and have whatever it needs replaced. I will also take everyone's advice and get the 1000 remote.

You could buy another one for what that will cost here in the city at an authorized repair center. And it's too big/difficult/expensive to ship to an alternative out-of-state source. Good luck tho.
One more question if no one minds. I was thinking about adding an 8" powered subwoofer to the 9000 with my CX100s - I'm almost certain I the preamp outputs could be used for the input to the sub? Or will the internal amp be bypassed if and external source (amp or sub) is used?
Why not using the Beovox Cona as a sub. Matches your CX100...
I never knew it existed until your post. I will be on the look out for one now. thank you.
