Hello Beoworld,

I have recently acquired a beosystem 5000. The beomaster appears to be working fine, in that all the buttons operate as they should, all channels are clear and sound great, and all the input sources are fine. However, the MCP will not connect. If I push any button on the MCP it delays a second or two and then says "no transmission" illuminated in red. Has anyone else encountered this? Can it be fixed?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have seen this and in my case, I had to replace the MCP. Since it uses two way communication, it sounds like the MCP isn't transmitting or receiving signals, otherwise the BM would respond to your command (change volume, mute, etc.) but not send the result. I have also seen the command go through, but not be received by the MCP, due to operating at a too extreme angle from the IR eye. Otherwise, that MCP was just fine. Make sure your batteries are fresh and try again. If you look at the front of the MCP and the BM through the eyepiece of a video camera, you should see the IR element flashing. The MCP to the BM and the BM response to the MCP. That should help you pin down the source of your problem. Good luck.

Thank-you!

This is definitely a start. I was able to capture the MCP IR's flashing on either corner of the unit, but nothing from the beomaster. I can surmise this to mean the MCP is functional, whilst the beomaster likely requires servicing or part replacement. Possibly a new IR eye?

That sounds like the next step. It could be as simple as a bad solder joint.

Hi,

Few tips about this problem:

The IR circuit is feed by +34V from the power supply which is filtered bu 100uF cap under the main transformer and that could be defect. Try to measure the voltage on the IR board at the front of the receiver. At all, the elements are 30yrs old and the electrylithics require maintence. If you are not familiar with electronics, give it to a friend/service, but i bet that the problem is small.

Recently I foung smth curious: my Beomaster is near my LCD TV and when the TV is On, both remotes (MCP5000 and Terminal5000) don`t work or barely work. Obvousely the TV (probably the high-voltage backlight) is disturbing the signals.

Thanks for the capacitor tip, this saved my Beosystem 5000!
