I have a set of 8000s that I am trying to hook up to a samsung 7150 tv with a JVC receiver. Since the tv only has line out, I am sending the audio into the receiver (which doesn't have pre outs) and then using the headphone jack into the line in on the speakers.
When i do this, I get a low level hum (regardless of the volume of the receiver) through the speakers - it doesn't get louder as the volume goes up.
I have plugged my iPhone directly into the speakers and get no hum. I have plugged headphones directly into my receiver and get no hum. It's just when I plug the receiver into the speakers that the hum starts.
Any thoughts?
Use only grounded outlets for power, check that you have proper outlets. Amplifiers must be connected to ground otherwise you get the low level hum you have as a letter in the post. It's a complete circuit so it can be any one of your connected equipment that is at fault. You can also look into switching outlets to see if that helps.
After this is done and checked then you look at cables and what not. Come back for more help from the forum due to the use of special cables by bang and olufsen.
So neither the amplifier or the speakers have grounded plugs - 2 prong outlets on both of them (Im in the US) - what would be the best way to ground the equipment then? Suggestions on any equipment I may need to get this done (grounding block or something?)
Did a bit more testing and the humm really only does happen when the receiver and speakers are hooked together, the speakers with another source (iphone) sound great, the receiver with a jambox attached doesn't make any hum.
