My local dealer in Arizona reports that they no longer stock Playmakers or their respective cables. I suppose it will be just the most expensive products from here on out. BTW, the salesperson was the least competent person in the world with respect to B&O. Can this be true?

The challenges of running a B&O store, with all the overhead and low turn, make staffing expense the only area easily addressed.

You get what you pay for. The store concept is dead. At least if an area is not well populated and affluent.

It doesn't seem to make much difference.  In the NYC Metro area:

The Greenwich, CT store closed.

The Manhasset, Long Island, NY store closed.

The Columbus Avenue NYC store closed.

All affluent and populated.

Think that is world wide the same. When I'm traveling with my bike and I always take a quick look at the local B&O store here in the Netherlands, never saw any costumers. Hope he has also a strong web based store.

Pardon me!

But what has the non-stocking of an obsolete product (the Playmaker) to do with closing of shops 'world wide'?

Yes, but with limitations. As these store mangers found out, most of their local residents worked in NYC, and bought their systems there, but stopped into their "local" B&O dealer for questions and support on the weekends/evenings.

At the very least the sales person might have suggested that Playmaker is obsolete. BTW, if that's the case, they should not show it on the floor. They might also be familiar with basic questions, like do you have a cable to connect beolabs.

I think it's too bad that the stores are closing.

You can still get PlayMakers with no problem from the company. Try another store.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

I would like to suggest being a community B&O ambassador.... I would have all the latest stock in my house showing it off in its real habitat and being used in an unsterilised environment.

I would have an open house policy, always giving a relaxed welcome showing passion for the product. Very little overheads as stock would be ordered on line with delivery next day from a central location according to availability. Only cost would be coffee and a professional Spotify/iTunes account etc.

Oh I do dream ......

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Easier said than done as the closest are in California, or Nevada.

I wanted to give you an update on this story.

I decided to write the store management to attempt to escalate the response regarding my experience. Much to my surprise, the store responded, and did so with two very outstanding professionals. Tod, the district manager from Chicago called and apologized (apparently the Phoenix store is owned along with others, by the Chicago Store). He did so in an absolutely professional manner. He also visited my house while he was visiting Phoenix with a local colleague. As a life long B&O customer, I was nearly ready to just give up on the brand. Their willingness to visit, and to resolve all of my problems, proved to me that there is still a great deal of value in Bang & Olufsen.

Thanks for caring about the brand, and about your customers.

Hi Mark,

I know this post is over a year old but this is a pretty cool idea, giving awesome loyal customers a 'toolbox' to become a B&O community Ambassador, with an open house policy and a customer sharing their passion too.  We should start a thread on this and see what the toolbox should be! I work in B&O and this could be something really interesting to put forward? Anyone else agree?

I am not sure the local dealers would be that interested.

Another idea would be to allow your dealer to name 'you' as a reference (to visit) for how the products are/can be used in a real home environment.

Maybe 'you' could make an arrangement with the dealer of borrowing some of the newer product for your ambassady' ;-))

B&O used to use examples of more affluent customers home setups a few years back in the days of printed brochures but it's better to sell the dream it would appear. It's always interesting to see the cabling solutions on the website. Beoplay shows the product in realistic settings but it could put some people off if they show something they cannot achieve or something too mundane. The alternative could be to create showrooms that are like show homes?

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

I reactivated this thread, because there is a similar thread right now:

In this thread SimonS also posted.

Maybe it is time for evaluting what is meant by: 'giving awesome loyal customers a 'toolbox' to become a B&O community Ambassador,......'

The only problem with this idea is that you have no idea who is really coming to your house - by the nature of most owners, these are homes with plenty of valuable items and inviting someone who might be 'casing the joint' might raise the interest of one's insurance company! If they need to recommend ambassadors, I am sure pointing them to Beoworld would be a good start!

I've commented before about the time I went into the Chicago B&O store and there was a blonde woman on the sales floor with no product knowledge whatsoever FILING HER FINGERNAILS. That store has since closed.

Hi Millemissen,

What i meant by toolbox was if their was a pack within the box of a purchased product to share our story with friends.

Alright - thanks!

But those who want to share, already does this - or?

A mobile phone and the different 'social medias' is used a lot (or Beoworld).

Or do you mean something different?

What should this 'pack' contain/be?
