Dear members,

a sticker has been glued to one stainless panel of my Pentas. After removal there are still traces of adhesive. How can one effectively remove this residue without damaging the stainless steel?

Greetings,

Kai

You could try a damp cloth or sponge

touch it on some washing powder to get a fine coating

do not squeeze to dissolve it

apply GENTLY to the adhesive  following the direction that the steel was polished - avoid a circular movement;  rinse and repeat

Use a tiny amount of white spirit with a soft cloth in the direction of the grain of the steel.  Follow with mild detergent as instructed previously then finish with either baby oil or better still, Coconut oil, to polish and protect the steel.

Thanks very much. What about isopropyl alcohol? Detergent only is not enough.

Yes, IPA may work depending on the adhesive used.  Try it but don't flood it on and don't rub the steel too hard or it will 'haze'.  Be gentle.  Detergent alone will not dissolve adhesive.

Most sticker adhesives (and paper stickers) will dissolve in regular vegetable oil. Let it soak long enough.

This.  It's a citrus-based cleanser made specifically to remove tape residue and other gunk.

I've used that on all sorts of things and it does work very well.  Can be difficult to find depending on where you are though and if the OP has some IPA that will be a quicker and easier option.

I have successfully used lighter fluid on my Pentas to remove tape residue, just squirt a bit on a cloth and apply, it doesnt leave any trace. I have also used an automotive product called "Autosol" (which is a polishing paste) to bring the shine back to the steel panels, however my Pentas dont appear to have any grain as far as I can see, they look like polished steel and not grained like my Beomaster 6000 panels, however maybe i havent looked close enough, or the previous owner has polished out the grain, any way they look mirror finished to me.

Yes, it does a great job of removing adhesive, but I don't know how it would treat the finish. Maybe better to use a product that some had a good experience in using - just to be safe.
