Considering what I can do with a Beosound Essence and my iPad with the Beosound app (read : very limited functionalities - frequent bugs/freezes) compared to what I can to with a Beosound Essence and third party apps (DS Audio for music, Spotify for Streaming via Spotify Connect) (read : more functionalities/ almost no bugs), I'm really wondering why I would invest in a Beosound Moment where I can not fix the software with better one (or new functionalities as soon as a new service comes out).
I think that B&O needs to put a lot of money on good programmers to get the same magic with software than with hardware. I think that I've read somewhere that the Essence software is made by a third party programming company : that's not the good way to go.
B&O had a very nice approach with MOTS : giving music to people that doesn't know what to play in their huge library. Now it's time to bring something like a really improved MOTS, and make it available to every B&O product (BS5/5E, Beosystem 4 based TVs, Beosound App, etc). That's a real differentiation factor when you compare to things like Sonos that are almost perfect in software (but lack a good controller) but doesn't answer the question "what songs to play?")

Interestingly I am looking at my BS900 at the moment - wouldn't it be great if it were updated to support CD, BR, 4K media; NL enabled; have all the connections and software to pull content from servers, the internet, etc; work with the iPAD, etc etc. Essentiall a combination Oppo and BS9000, and some more.
Ultimately this is what I would love to have, but perhaps that while market of physical media has disappeared.
BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100

That might be your 'problem' - but it is certainly not mine.
As long as I can turn off 'the MOTS thingy', I don't mind it being part of a new BeoSystem - personally I have no need for it.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
We have discussed the Moment in a couple of threads already, but B&O released new info regarding the launch: B&O will re-address the multi room functionality of the Moment to be inline with a developing market demand. B&O expect to launch the Moment in early 2015, not this summer as originally planned.

Roger:&O released new info regarding the launch
Interesting! Is this available online?
Roger@. Can we expect Some major updates for the beosound 5 to?
B&O must be doing fine, just to skip a mayor release just because one stream provider doesn't allow multiroom!
Deezer, music servers, internet music, radio streams are capable to multiroom services (the JOIN command is really easy with 2 BV11 & 2 BLC), so isn't there another reason?
@koning: Sorry, no major updates for the BS5 in the pipeline.
@carolpa: The BeoSound Moment will be the major release this financial year, and B&O will take their time to make sure it will tick all the boxes necessary for it to become the superior audio master on the market today. No small task for the Danes.
Very interesting.
So, the BeoSound 5 will not be the superior audio master in the B&O portfolio anymore ?
@Roger: if Spotify doesn't allow it now, how sure can they be Spotify will allow it in 2015? And what if the lights do not flip to "green"? Then wait for the next financial year?
Spotify don't allow it for some time. B&o kept releasing tv's capable to play Spotify and are multiroom.
My point: if the release is withdrawn, I don't beleave it is only because of this argument (maybe it is an excuse though)

BeoBoy68: @Millemissen (who wrote:) So - please don't blame it on B&O (and 'a problem of software again') - especially not if you don't know the real reasons for the delay. I wrote "a rumor spreads". Please stop to attack me. I report simply what I heard.

Hmmm - actually you wrote: "a rumor spreads" that the Moment is delayed...But the part with the software issue was your own opinion added to it...
(Quote: BeoBoy68:)
A rumor spreads:
The BeoSound Moment is delayed for 2015.
In my opinion, a problem of software again.
(end of Quote)
- but, your'e right - the do have some software issues - going on for years now...
The rumour concerning 'being delayed' was right - yes!
The rumour concerning 'problems with software' can still not be proven - I'd say no!
According to Roger the product was finished.
I guess it has something to do with licensing problems.
Maybe Samsung (for their WAM) has got exclusive rights for using Spotfy Connect in multi room systems?
Whether these last half a year or so (the delay period of the Moment), or B&O decided to take a different route, we don't know.
If they decided to change things, they of cource need time to create the 'new' software.
So still no reason to blame B&O for SW-problems!
@millemissen the lawyer of Bang & Olufsen
Instead of paying millions of danisk krone their boss and managers,
B&O should invest massively in research and software development .
The delay is caused by applications for the Beolink [and so software]
* exclusive integration with deezer
* net radio
* network
* very extensive mots
* be cabled and wireless network
* wireless streaming to Beolabs
Sorry - I can read it.
But it needs further explanation to understand what is meant!

I find it very disappointing to read the above. If B & O again is missing the boat for the launch of this player, then I fear serious for the survival of this company in the long term. The launch of new products like the WISA speakers must absolutely be accompanied by an accompanying music system, to get you to buy. Existing loyal audience and new customers will not wait another year to complete there music system. And do not tell me that it is a small company with limited resources, others are even more, but try harder. I sympathize with the aspirations of B & O vendors who should try to sell the Essence as an accompanying music system, it is not an answer to a decent network-player, it's not even close.
After a relaxing holiday, with finally finding the time to go through my HiFi-magazines, there are now already a lot of new networkplayers from famous brands as is Lindemann musicbook, Naim Muso, Cyrus Stream X Signaturen and on, with or without multiroom functionality.
Our beloved brand is stuck somewhere... is it in software, spirit, or just that Danish stubbornness in following its own path. Come on Tue Mantoni, get the feeling Bang had in dreamed up new products, I also want to say ‘Bang & Olufsen is back.’
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
B&O will struggle to win the spec-war going on in the strugglig tv sector, and the approach taken with the Avant is a good one for B&O: They offer something that (appear) to be better built with better materials than the average tv and there is a touch of magic to way the tv and speaker moves. At a price point that is close to perfect for them. Place the base some 10 cm away from the wall, and the tv can turn sideways to a fairly high angle without touching the wall - and still look "flush" with the wall when turned off. Brilliant, and something I find more usefull than 3D, 9.1 surround sound etc.
Regarding the Essence - I was rather frustrated with the lack of display (being a BeoSound 5 user), but I got it and hooked it up to a pair of 2nd hand BL4k's in a bathroom. Now I love it! No fidling with a smartphone, looking for a remote: as I enter the room, I flip it on and I only listen to 3 radio stations anyway, so finding my way between them is easy. Turned on the sauna the other day, and used the Spotify feature and my smartphone as the remote to find the correct playlist. It is so easy, even my girlfriend uses it (compared to the BeoSound 5, which she do not touch).
I truly like the Moment, the finish, the look, the touch of class - the idea of the charing station, a panel that flips. I was looking forward to this product as a replacement for the BS5 this summer, and knowing B&O I was expecting the usual delay from "release this summer" to a deliver-to-customer around October. But being pushed to "2015" was just sad. Hopefully, the new "mini" soundsystem for BeoPlay will be released this Fall - giving us something to play with till the Moment arrives.

Roger,
When you said « No fidling with a smartphone, looking for a remote: as I enter the room, I flip it on and I only listen to 3 radio stations anyway, so finding my way between them is easy ».
Where does the music come from ? Your BS5 ? A NAS ? An iPod ? ... ?
This is what i want : just enter the room, touch the Essence and the music comes.
And what about this "mini" soundsystem from BeoPlay ?
Something to replace the BeoLit 12 ? Sounds very interesting !
Steph, as Roger said, he push the button, and radio plays.
If your last played playlist was on spottily, when you push the button, it's Spotify that will start to play where it was stopped.
And the tips I found : if you use DS Audio to play things on your Essence with a Synology NAS, and stream from the NAS with Airplay, when you push the button, it will be your last played song on the NAS that starts to play where stopped.
I think it is possible Moment will be introduced at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

A couple months ago you weren't impressed had all!
What happend?
Millemissen is spot on wrt the new sound system. I am not that impressed, but I gues it will improve the daily operation and in that respect it will be good. The system will end up on your living room table, and it will be easy to separate it from the other tablets floating around - but wil it be necessary? It is a merge of a BeoSound 5 and a tablet, part glass and part aluminium.
@koning: As stated above, I was rather frustrated by the Essence as well. Then I lived with it and I see the point: the way it changed the way I deal with streaming, playlists, net radio to the better. Pretty much the same thing that happened when I replaced my BeoCenter 9500 back in 97 with the BeoSound 9000. It changed the way I lived with music in my daily life, too. I can see that the Moment will have the same effect as a replacement for the BS5 on my daily life. Sure, the Essence is over prized if you look at the bits and not the sum of them.
That is what I like about B&O.
@Steph: this new mini system is said to be even more portable than the BeoLit 12. Think of something that you actually would bring with you when you go on vacation. The insiders claim the main target will be existing B&O customers (I am sure B&O´s press office will strongly disagree) that just have to get this gadget. The price I heard was so low that some will not take it seriously on this forum :-) Expected to be revealed next month at the Dealer Conf. And, no, this is not the "new" BeoPlay S8 system to be released this month - surely mentioned elsewhere on this forum.

when the beosound moment arrives is there still a market for the beosound5?
Roger:the "new" BeoPlay S8 system to be released this month
Will this be a stand alone music system (docking station or Airplay) or beolabs and a subwoofer?
Don't remember this BeoPlay S8 mentioned on this forum, but someone (maybe Roger, i don't know anymore) mentioned elsewhere a compact speaker to match, for exemple, laptops.
Maybe this is the new "mini system" ?
Roger, can you confirm ?
And, thanks for all. Always a pleasure to have your views and news !
Not much has been said about the new Beoplay speakers, any more info you could share would be great
The S8 is not the new mini system.
The S8 is identical to BL14 2.1 with 3 important differences: 1) The surround processor is removed, 2) It is black (the sub is all black, not white as on the BL14 - and the aluminum rings on the satellite speakers are black) and 3) the price is 2/3 (at least here, BL14 2.1 is 15.000 kr compared to S8 at 9.995 kr)
Barry Santini:Ooh! Maybe now that Moment is delayed much, bno can see their way clear for another enhancement for the BS 5!
They have issued an EOL notice for the CD ripper for the BS5. It can no longer be bought as a separate item, but only together with the BS5 while supply lasts. I do think is says something regarding any enhancements for the BS5 to be expected.
The future is looking GOOD :-)
