Big Smile - and chill! B&O is a divisive brand, are they worth the money, are they massively overpriced etc.?

I love the design of the BL5's, BL3's, BL8000's,........... I intensely dislike the BL18's! I think they are a result of a committee meeting on what they could do to the basic 8000 to make it more "stylish". Long before it was revealed I dreaded them just plonking a ALT lens on top of an 8000, and yet it appeased a lot of people....................... however, I digress - everyone likes different things, we can argue technicalities and we can argue specifications but design isn't a measurable quantity and so we have to accept there is no absolute! It never ceases to amaze me that some love the things I hate but then again, if taste was a constant we would have all tried to marry the same woman (or man, for pc'ness).

Diversity of opinion is not only interesting but important!

A short rant.

The Moment just might be wonderful and maybe terrific for the money.  However the connections appear to be the same as the Essence.  Bang and Olufsen has released a few photos, a quick video and really nothing more.  Also we are told that all the features such as interconnectivity with one's local network and how it works with a Beovision Avant will happen with some future software and firmware update.  This is supposed to enable NL and other features still unknown.

Besides the design, the real problem is we don't know much and to be sure, I am not impressed.

As for the Beosound 5, I was an early adopter for a product that looked good but had woefully bad software and infrequent updates.  My Beosound 5 which has died out of warranty was a disaster.  I paid over $6000 USD plus taxes.  I will say no more on that subject.

In 2014, I purchased a new Apple Mac, an iPhone 6 Plus, and an iPad 2 Air.  These products have been problem free.  These products were announced in advance and we were told of the capabilities and specifications. Other manufacturers besides Apple are like this also.

If I consider a Moment, it will not be until there is a MK2 version and after reading the continuing comments on Beoworld ad nauseam.

MM.  Thanks for the photos.

Wonderful post. Add Beolab 20 to the list above, that is, dislike... The BL9's were amazing. it appears they may be using the same acoustic lens from the BL18 on top of the BL20, and the pointed tuxedo look of the grill is less than elegant to my eyes. But then again, if they sound as good as they look on paper (as have other stated), I'll reserve judgement.

I agree wholeheartedly that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, but when we're talking about devices which perform a set function... There needs to be some kind of "hook." That "hook" is what a major part of the debate is about regarding the Moment.

I love Bang & Olufsen.

I love Apple.

Products of infinite joy. Quality materials. The best designs (well, 95% of the time). Seemless integration. Best user-experiences.

I'm very close to changing my avatar to Apple logo with B&O in the center. Or to B&O, where the O is replaced with the Apple logo Big Smile

This was off-topic, too, inspired by the latest developments at this thread — which have been fun to read even at 5:30 am!

As you might know the BeoMusic app was launched when the Essence came out.

This app has now become an update - and can now control the BS Moment as well.

as you can see from this excerpt from the FAQ's on the B&O site - it controls the A9/new version too!!!

What can I use BeoMusic App for?

Use BeoMuisc App for all compatible* devices:

  • To browse, search and play music from a mobile device, such as an iPhone/iPad or Android, to your Bang & Olufsen /B&O PLAY music system.
  • To browse and play music from a media server (Network Attached Storage - NAS) to your Bang & Olufsen /B&O PLAY music system.
  • Use the ”now playing” function and basic control, available for all sources. BeoMusic App opens up to the relevant context and gives you immediate access to basic controls for all sound sources.
  • To browse and search in 70,000 global Internet radio stations and play them on your Bang & Olufsen /B&O PLAY music system (requires a TuneIn account).
  • To edit in your list of Internet radio stations
  • To select a source connected to the line-in socket of your Bang & Olufsen/B&O PLAY music system.
  • To search and playback your Deezer content, if Deezer is available for your Bang & Olufsen/ B&O PLAY music system (requires a Deezer account).

*BeoMusic app is compatible with BeoSound Essence/BeoPlay A9 (2nd generation).

Here are some photos of how the app and the Moment works together/how the Moment reacts when you prefer to use the app.

So those, who don't fancy the SoundHeart naked, just let the Jukebox cover it up Smile Stick out tongue

Sit back in your comfortable couch and use your phone/tablet.

The Moment will display, what you are listening to - even if your mom calls or you write on Beoworld...

I find it nice.

I'm totally with BeoBoy, KMA and Chris on this one. B&O and Apple play VERY VERY VERY well together and share the same love of design AND attention to detail! Leave ALL software to Apple and leave the speakers & amps to B&O :)

Nice discussions anyway :)

Do I understand you right?

B&O should not make a product like the BS Moment - or for that matter the Essence or the A9/Version2?

They should not worry about integrating the/these audio features in their BV's?

Too bad the BeoMusic app only works with certain B&O products :(

I paid for the BeoPlayer, but it didn´t update to after iPhone 5s, and now I can´t even find it :(

The BeoMusic app is designed to hook in to the NL-network.

That is why it only works with the Moment, the Essence and the A9 Version2 - as a controller.

I suppose, that there will be more products coming (and that the newer tv's will get some kind of update).

The BeoPlayer was an ordinary (iPhone) app with AirPlay (and Bluetooth) support.

What you paid for, was the radio service.

I am listening to it right now from my iOS8 updated iPad Mini.

You should be able to find it in the section with your bought items in the App Store.

It gets no updates anymore - but it still works.

Probably they have other projects, that need attention, resources and manpower.

I know it's early, but does anyone know more about the multiroom function that is coming in the summer? Will it be only for the Moment as master and the A9/Essence as slaves, or will it be a general update to all three systems?

I'm planning a renovation in the coming months and have to make a decision soon wiring an ML-network or let that go in favour for a new multiroom solution :)

I just had this discussion with my dealer who's quite technical (Winchmore Hill, north London):

- Make sure you shape your network as a star, not a bus. All the cables go from one central point (a cupboard which has a power socket) to all the rooms.

- Use Ethernet cables (B&O recommends CAT7) for cabling your home.

- Use a B&O junction box to connect all the Ethernet cables in the central point. A hub won't do as it's not IP, but good old analog Masterlink.

- Use CAT7ML adapters socket from B&O as on the image below in each room where you connect a ML device.

When you buy your first NL device, you place a NL/ML converter in the cupboard, and connect the room that has the NL device to the NL side of the converter.

When you add more rooms, you add a hub on the NL side. Note that the NL network should also be connected to your internet router.

In that way you can future proof your cabling and still use ML for a while.

So it is airplay

No, you don't push music to it using Airplay, It streams music fro your iTunes library. You choose and browse the music on the Beosound.

You can push music to it from a device using bluetooth as an alternative to AirPlay.

Hi everybody

Can the Moment be used as a (DLNA) Media controleur ?

Lets say you have the following stuff on your local Network

   - a Nas hosting all your music
   - a  Windows PC (it coul be also a Mac or Linux system) configured as a DLNA renderer and connected to an USB DAC => connected to Non B&O Hifi System

can you select an play your music  from the moment ??

@Millemissen => the PC is running JRiver   (I have just read yours answers to this post   http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/13439.aspx )  Smile

and is connected to a beovision 7 for display in the living room (controled by Beo4 through Lintronnic)

Other PC also running J river are located in some other rooms

Can the Moment connect to several instances of iTunes Libraries running on multiple MACs in the same network?

And does iTunes have to be running for the Moment to connect to the library? (I'm assuming it does)

Steph:

Millemissen,

What is your feeling about the Moment ?

The wood, the touch of class, the GUI, the fluidity, the user experience in general,...

It seems to be a true B&O product...

The short version  - I did not find the spare time for the longer Embarrassed

Actually my feelings are a mixed bag.

I am not sure, that I - being basically an Artist/Album listener - am the right guy for this device.

But I am quite sure, that it is the right device for a lot of people!!!

I love the way it interacts with a NL-BV - it is so easy to integrate and to use.

I love that you can control it (the SoundHeart) with the Jukebox (the big tablet remote), the one touch function on both sides of the Jukebox, the Essence 'wheely', the Beo remotes or even with the BeoMusic app.

I like that the Jukebox feels like a big remote - and not like a tablet, when you use it. The wooden side feels kind of 'soft', when you hold it in your hand

It is a device, that you might well get addicted to very fast - if you don't need something for 'deeper searching'.

I am sure everyone will find his way of using the Moment - well almost everyone Sad

I am convinced, that it will be a perfect hub in the coming multiroom environment.

People will be able to do things with the SoundHeart (as the Audio Center in a NL-B&O setup), that they can never do with any 'tablet/whatever combination' - at least not in such a convinient way.

In it's own way it is a true B&O product - but it is a product for the contemporary way of using music.

When you get to know it, it will surprice you - just like any other of the BeoSystems has done in their way before.

Would I buy it?

Probably not - because my setup at the moment is based on ML (and a standalone V1-32).

I would need a converter - and some good ideas, how to integrate my existing BeoMaster.......

When time comes for an upgrade of my main tv (to an NL-BV), I might answer with a 'yes', but....

....I probably would have to struggle a bit to find my way of using it - which might include heavy using of the BeoMusic app and the possibilities of the line-input.

But that should not matter much to you. Test it/try it- and se for yourself.

I am looking very much forward to, what people say, when the have experienced it - and, when they have used it for a while.
