Thanks Chris !
Apparently, the BeoMaster 5 as a NAS isn't a great idea.
What a pity, my idea was to connect a BM5 (which is connected now to a BeoSound 5) to a Moment !
So, i think i'm going to use the Moment as a stand alone sound system in my lounge, connected to a pair of wireless B&O speakers and to a NAS.
Now, the question is : Which NAS ?
Steph: Apparently, the BeoMaster 5 as a NAS isn't a great idea.
Dont' understand me wrong, it perfectly works with a Beomaster 5. When you play an album from start it gives you smooth listening. Only when you swipe to another album and try to starts a particular song, it takes a delay of seconds before you hear that song.
Having a large collection of albums at home in iTunes playing from a server, swiping to another album & song gives me an immediate listening. That was the thing that nerves me on the Beomaster/ Moment combo. But it could be different in using Beomaster at home. The shop has one extensive network, other things could slow the load between Moment & Beomaster. Could be the reason why B&O recommend a separately network for their NL.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
OK Chris, thanks.
My collection of music albums is not very large (circa 400 albums in WMA, FLAC, MP3 320).
Maybe with an access point it could do the trick.
Can you confirm that the Moment can play the WMA Lossless files ? I think a BeoWorlder said it can do the conversion "on the fly", because in the specs it can't read WMA Lossless.
Steph,
Here are the specs:
AUDIO FORMATSMP3 (all) or VBR / CBR 32 -> 320kbitWMA, both VBR and CBR 20 -> 320kbit (No support for WMA Lossless)AAC (ISO and ADTS) -> 320kbitALAC general + 88.2, 96 kHzPCM (WAV) general + 88.2, 96 kHzFLAC, 8-96 kHz, 16 or 24 bits, 2 channels
No problem to convert your WMA files yourself, use XLD for it. (its free)
Aussie Michael:It's great on the B&O website that they are incorporating "how to use" the product. I mentioned this months ago as something missing but would be great to see. Well done B&O
BeoNut since '75
Steffen: Hmm - what do you think of this..?
Hmm - what do you think of this..?
Very nice projet created allready in 2012 for LG's smartphone.
The black station speaker is very well integrated with the phone.
The BeoSound Moment should look like this in black purity color.
It is a real "boom" box
setup 1:
Moment connected to BV11 + speakers on BV11 + NL/ML converter + ML: music only local on BV11
setup 2:
Moment connected to NL/ML converter + speakers on converter+ BV11 + ML: music only local NL/ML connected speakers AND ML
Carolpa: setup 2: Moment connected to NL/ML converter + speakers on converter+ BV11 + ML: music only local NL/ML connected speakers AND ML
Beoworld app with direct photo upload and emoticons.
Carolpa: setup 1: Moment connected to BV11 + speakers on BV11 + NL/ML converter + ML: music only local on BV11 setup 2: Moment connected to NL/ML converter + speakers on converter+ BV11 + ML: music only local NL/ML connected speakers AND ML
We have to wait for a software solution in summer, before this problem is fixed and you can use both ML & NL( or more then one) at the same time.
But there is one thing I have not tested in the shop this week, its making playlist from your music files on your nas. How easy is this on the Moment. I mean organise songs from different albums on the nas and mix them to one playlist.
PhilLondon:I don't think you need such a complex setup. Connect between the Moment and Beovision should work out of the box. No converters needed.
true, but I was trying the possibilities.......... and maybe people are interested what with ML
I don't think this is a 'problem', that 'has to be fixed'.
It is a feature, that will be rolled out this summer.
Nice addition/upgrade to the Moment (and the Converter etc...).
The only 'problem' I see here is, that some people just can't wait for this to happen
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
My understanding is that it is working today.
Got mine today.
Spent a few happy hours setting it up with Avant 55 and connected speakers.
Very happy customer at the moment!!
Can select other V1's, but only one at a time and appreciate that multi room is on its way.
Haven't tried ML/NL yet…….
Value for money……fantastic!!
Mike
tobeyone: Very happy customer at the moment!! Mike
Mine is running since 4hours .... Happy too!
I'll report my findings once I'm fully configured (Deezer, TuneIn configured so far, using Metadatics to properly configure my 31K tunes before disclosing them to the Moment)
BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1
Found this link that explain how to use the Moment with a Beo4 or Beoremote One.
Is it vanity to reply to one's own questions ?
I have had some 3 plays at the Collins Street store with the moment, and I revisited them today with a list of questions after a day of research into iTunes playlists and Twonky ... answers that I have are in bold
elephant: @Chris: thank you for your excellent report. General questions/ comments: 1/ the currently free/ include one year subscription to Deezer - a big saving ? ??? 2/ the combo deal of oak moment with oak bl18s - a big saving ? ??? 3a/ the support for more than 2 speakers ... 2 wired, the rest wireless - this must be simultaneously always on ? yes - two all speakers as pairs of left + right 3b/ Can you independently switch them on / up / down / mute / off ? I suspect they would chant the Three Musketeers' motto 3c/ Is this a starter kit / poor man's multi-room party mode ? seems so ... at least until the mid-year upgrades 4/ finally, the link to Twonky licences under B&O - another big saving ? seems not ... standard Twonky licence is relatively small

My general findings are that the Moment's mood play may struggle for my family, with seven music personalities loaded into our iTunes library.
However the Moment as sold may suit my wife ... but perhaps not me (although I have yet to have a serious hands on play with the store's BeoMusic App).
One thing I have discovered is that the iTunes playlists (and there are three styles: static, dynamic, and smart) are not picked up by Twonky -- you need to have a tool to export from iTunes database/XML into *.m3u playlist format.
elephant: 1/ the currently free/ include one year subscription to Deezer - a big saving ? ??? What's a big saving? 9,99 euro's a month for Deezer and currently if your a first user, the first 30 days for free! After a year a once pay of 99 euro/year (you get this reduction if you pay with Mister Cash). 2/ the combo deal of oak moment with oak bl18s - a big saving ? ??? nothing of this in my country, no deals for me!

You are absolutely right about no multiroom yet. But call it a poor man's, no. Its easy to swap between sources you send the music to. But indeed for the full option or easy way it is a wait until summer. Or maybe earlier if they make a good sell, that will keep pressure on them.
Twonky is indeed not such a big bargain, only 14,95 euro for a lifetime licence (hopefully).
I forgot to test playlist or how they are placed on the Moment easily from an existing iTunes playlist. And that's a thing of interest, could spare someone a bunch of work. I give my dealer a call today, how could I forgot this very important question.
Mood play, I have my thinking of it, as you say if the family is big...

The guy, who I visited 5-6 weeks ago - he who made some testing on the Moment - told me, that the issue 'multi-user accounts' had been slightly addressed, but not implemented into the software.
From a certain point of view this would be nice to have, but on the other hand it would contradict the easiness and the simplicity of the user interface.
Personally I don't think 'multiple accounts' will happen!
At one time during testing he had removed the Moment from the setup (with the BV11) in their living room.
His wife asked him several times, when that thing would come back again - she missed it/had gotten used to it simply being there.
That speaks for it self!
Maybe we should take our wives with us to the shop - could make the decision for a Moment faster
I would - like you probably would - be a bit more interested in, what one can do with the BeoMusic app.
Can anyone tell if Moment send any of its sources out on a ML system (incl NL/ML Converter)?
As mentioned in another thread, I have removed my Audiomaster and intend to replace it with Moment.
I´m afraid I will not be able to play Moment sources from my BL3500.
/C
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
Please have a look at the link to the FAQ's, that Phil provided just above.
Probably only the sources, that are reachable with the Beo4....
.... unless they release a new software for the BL3500 (which probably won't be).

For the moment you have the choice: 1) Moment connected to the BV11 then only music on the BV11 or 2) connected to the NL/ML converter than music from the converter (if speakers are connected to the converter) and music on your ML.
1) + 2) are official not possible for the moment (update later this year should make this possible). With a trick: connect the PL of the Moment to the Line In of the NL/ML converter then it should be possible to hear music on your complete system.
.... but not to choose a specific source (of the Moment).
Just be carefull when you put the Jukebox back on the wall-shelved SoundHeart
Can anyone confirm if it works okay to have another media server for iTunes on a NAS than Twonky?
I have a Synology NAS DS-212J and the built in Media Server.
I did tests last night where I shared my iTunes music folder using the Media Server on my NAS, and my BV11 (H.MEDIA) picks it up including coverart. Could not play apple lossless, but that´s not supported in the BV11 I assume.
I´m not sure how I would install Twonky on the Synology NAS.

Hiort - I'll tell you in a couple of days. I have the Moment and the same Synology device. Just finishing metadata cleanup an I'll add the NAS as a source. The Synology Media server will do the job, there is no doubt

Great! I will pick up my Moment this afternoon
When you say "metadata cleanup", don´t you have your music in iTunes?
You probably do not need to install the Twonky software on your Synology as the DLNA implementation should be sufficient. (indexing , embedded cover art and moving track should work properly with Synology version)
back in 2008 I did installed Twonky on my DS107+ because it had a better dlna implementation than the synology one
you need to have basic skills in Linux to acheive that, and the maintenance is not so simple
Today I do not use twonky anymore ... but how knows ?
Hiort: When you say "metadata cleanup", don´t you have your music in iTunes?
I do have my NAS music initially organized by iTunes, but I found many discrepancies in type of music setup, cover missing for some tracks, artist name not written consistently, etc ... which is normal after 5 years and more than 31000 tracks, so I have preferred to clean the shop before letting the Moment play with it, fair isn't it ? :-)
what im curious about is (1) the time it will take to digest the full library (2) the time to reflect any change in the library, a mystery for now.
My reseller told me that integrating his 4000 tunes was reasonably fast, we will see ...

Sure, makes sence. My library is not as big and quite tidy
Must admit I'm growing to like the Moment more and more.................
Just would love a true search function.
Maybe I should listen to my wife more. My good lady said I'm like the Beosound Moment, she wasn't impressed with me at first, but now she knows all my qualities (good and bad) she cant live without me

I'm interested in the above as well, especially #2. I've got a rather large 150+GB Music library on my personal Mac, and then another similar one on the Family Server (with movies on it as well), obviously the Moment won't deal with movies, but still, changes to my libraries occur every couple of weeks across multiple libraries -- so I'm curious how often the Moment reaches out to the mother ship to pull that new information.
I can envision a scenario like this: The Moment is done organizing all the media in your home libraries. Immediately after it is done, you delete a few songs from one of your libraries. You or another family member then opt to play that song from the moment. What does the moment do, when it tries to access that newly deleted song, or would that song just not appear as a selectable option immediately after it has been deleted?
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

To my undestanding the Moment is a DLNA Renderer, in this way it should only access the files on your DLNA server and (very probably) index locally the Metadata (artist name, song name, song track , etc ... in order to be as fast as possible
If you delete a file on your DLNA server the Index file(s) on the moment should be update localy and the album should desappear from you list
That does not change the need to organise correctly yours albums on your Server and also to have a correct Embebeded metadata of each audio file (ex: you can have different artist names for a same artist like "The Beatles" or "Beatles (The)" depending on how the initial tag has been done..
Facel: If you delete a file on your DLNA server the Index file(s) on the moment should be update localy and the album should desappear from you list
Thanks, so that implies that changes are immediately noticed by the Moment, and the Moment's local index should update immediately as well.
