Which is better and why?
I would imagine the Beosound 8 would sound better but maybe im wrong!
Any opinions on which is better and why?

I would really suggest that you pop over to your B&O agent and have a listen as sound quality is subjective however, I think that you will notice a bit of a difference between the two. The BS8 definitely sounds bigger BUT the little BeoLit 12 sure is a tough little performer for its size!!! It's very decent and im sure it would be great in a little bijou apartment. I can definitely see it being popular with the Mulberry handbag brigade :) Very chic and very girly!
i have heard them both. i find the sound of BS 8 to be more Clear and more accurate. The beolit 12 is good but it isn't as good as
The Beolit 12 is of course completely portable so that has to be factored in.

Personally, I'd go for the current BS8 which is 15% off. The forthcoming A8 is going to look pricey for £1000, with the addition of AirPlay the only new feature (which you can mimic using Airfoil Speakers, anyhow).
Beosound 8 offers very good (not excellent) sound, very good for day to day use. You can swap out the frets. The Beolit 12 is only better if you want a smaller portable device you can move from room to room.
i havent heard the beolit 12 yet but i really like the beosound 8 it sounds great. but i love the portability of the beolit and the illuminated buttons on the top. I want it in yellow definitely.
How many more watts does the beosound 8 have? The beolit 12 has an output
of 120 watts...but watts can be misleading.
