Hi all,

Sorry for poor English, school's been a few years, and sorry for typos - I'm writing via Smartphone (and due to some software issue I cannot see my writing while typing). Hope you can understand it anyhow. ;)

yep, you've read it correctly: It's not Beogram 5 to system 6, my question is just the other way round. :)

I have an almost complete and fully original and working Beosystem

5500 in white and I LOVE IT!

Well, only almost complete: Unfortunately the Beogram 5500 is missing. Now, there are some on the market, But none that I could afford at the moment. Now, I could buy a Beogram 6500 in white for a very decent price. However I know the preamp-issue, in this constellation I would have two preamps, right? I don't think this will work. Also, I already use Tape2, so I will have to plug the Beogram into Phono.

Now my question is, is it (easily) possible to "manipulate" the 6500 so that its preamp does not work anymore and I can plug it into my Beomaster 5500? And I would prefer a solution that can be easily reversed, when I will one day find a decent Beogram 5500, because I then will want to sell the 6500 again. :)

Thank you so much for any ideas!

Btw: I could also buy a Beogram 7000 - I think this should be exactly the same thing?

Best regards

Stefan

Occasionally these B&O aux expanders show up on eBay (scroll down for photos).   Allows one aux input to be used by up to 4 devices (DIN inputs/output).

Yes, BG7000 is the same thing as a 6500.

The Beogram 6500/7000 sells for far more than the 5500. You want either a 5500, 5005 or the radial 5000 (Actually the best made and probably best sounding!) all of which will work. You can plug the 6500 into a tape input but it will not work by remote or you can plug it into the CD socket and it will (CD players think they are record players!) You could remove the 6500 RIAA but I wouldn't!

If you don't mind what it looks like, there is a 3300 on eBay as well  as a 5005 and a 5000. The last two will match your system.

Thanks a lot for the information, this is very helpful. However I do neither find a white 5000 nor 5005 nor 5500 on ebay. Perhaps I am too stupid for ebay (or for ebay on my mobile, might be), but I do not find them.

I have one offer to buy a 5500 in fine condition but it is about 800€ (another one in excellent condition is offered for 1.200€) while I have been offered a good 7000 series for about 500€. That's where I am coming from. The 6500 sells even cheaper on ebay.

Just to answer how much I care for the looks: I would see the 6500 as a temporary solution just because it says 6500 and not 5500 like the other components. So I do care for the looks a lot.

The looks is also the only thin that's keeping me of buying the adapter switch (thanks for the link! I did not know that, great piece) - however if I will keep on not-finding a good 5500 in white the proposed switch-box seems to be a good solution, because as a matter of fact I get offered good 6500 and 7000 in white all the time. But almost nobody seams to have a 5500 - or only for extraordinary price tags.

Thanks a lot for the answeres. And of course, I'd be thankful to any links to an offer, in case I really am too stupid for ebay (might look like it, I keep getting very little results only).

In terms of white models, they did not produce a 5000 or 5005 in white.

The 5500 was produced in white as an anniversary model, and then it became a standard colour with the 6500 and 7000.

Also, I would say the 5500 should be by far the cheapest as Peter mentions!

My 5500 white Beogram cost me around £100 with MMC4 a couple of years ago, you may be better off being patient and waiting for one to come up!

You could use one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skytronic-CD-Turntable-Selector-Use-Phono-Input-your-Amp-CD-MP3-etc-/400284073931?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item5d32ca3fcb

Not sure what the sound quality would be like going RIAA to reverse and then back again!
