Hello all,
This may be heresy in this forum, but I need to replace a B&O Beomaster 5500 system in the house I recently purchased. The system consists of the Beomaster 5500, Beocord 5500, Beogram 5500, Master Control Panel 5500 and 4 MCL X-TRA speaker kits (all installed in the attic) controlling ceiling-mounted non-B&O speakers in 5 rooms of the house with the transceivers set in to the walls of 4 rooms (the room with the receiver has no transceiver).
The CD player doesn't work and I don't own any tapes. The only thing we use is the radio and the Master Control is a bit flaky even after replacing the batteries. So we need to replace the system. My question is, can I use the speakers and transceivers (only for the mute functionality, I know they won't send IR commands back) with a newer receiver (likely a Sony or Yamaha as we only need radio and Air Play capabilities) or do I have to rip out everything (except the non-B&O speakers in the ceilings) and install new controllers for each room along with the new receiver?
Thanks,
Troy
Hi Troy,
Just keep your good old BeoMaster (and the complete installation) and connect an AirPort Express or - better - a B&O Playmaker to a free input on the BeoMaster.
Then you have access to oldschool Radio and all the sources you can get from an iDevice - Spotify (or alike), netradio, your own stored files etc from all your rooms.
You won't need the MCL Panel - just get a (or more) BeoLink 1000 or any Beo4 for activating the source and adjusting the volume.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
