Hi

We are planning to move to Australia for some years, and we would really like to bring our B&O equipment with us. We have BV7, BV8, BS5 and some Beolabs. Everything purchased in Denmark.

Is there any problems bringing that with us to Australia?

Thanks a lot.

Hi. There shouldn't be as some people have purchased those exact products from overseas and try and sell them on eBay lol

Just make sure you have the right plug for the wall (mains power).

If each of your products say it can handle 240V then you're good to go which I'm quite sure they're ok.

The only problem I've heard of is with phones beocom as they are market specific.

Welcome to Australia.

If you need help / assistance with Aussie info PM me - happy to help.

Cheers

You'll have no problems at all. Most things use figure 8 power cables, so you'll only need to swap these over. The TVs will need to be reset through the menu so that they identify as being in Australia to retune the channels (very easy). I'm also happy to help should you need.

You'll love Australia!!

Welcome to Australia - and hopefully it's Melbourne you are coming to:

Voted several times as the world's most liveable city AND with a vibrant Beoworld community: Michael, Jonathan, me (and others)

PS what we did is bring power blocks and therefor only need one converter plug for a set of speakers etc

You don't have any DAB so the move to DAB+ out here isn't an issue.

I moved out with an Avant 12 years ago and had to have the tuner changed in that but the equipment you are bringing is lot more world-friendly.

The only thing I found (through some recent eBay Becom 1600/2500 purchases) is that the phone to wall socket cable needs to be cross wired for phones from some european countries (German models in particular) but if you are a capable with the cable crimper then you can sort that yourself.

Welcome to Aus !!

Dear all

Thanks for all the replies. We still need to get the contract in place, so there is not final date yet, but I would wonder if it would not happen within short time :-) And the place is going to be Sydney, not far from Melbourne. In Australian terms

Half a year ago we took a trip around the world in 3 months and we spend some time in AUS, starting in Sydney and driving to Brisbane and then flying to Cairns. But we missed Melbourne :-(
The during the relative short time just made us fall in love with Australia, not just the nature but certainly also the people and culture. And our 3 boys have the same feelings.

We will leave our Beocom 6000 phones at home in DK, but we will bring all the other parts.

And at the moments we have so many questions. It is a challenge to leave the well known Denmark in favour of another fantastic country.

Hi

Now, everything is in place:
Job - check
Visa - check
Flight tickets - check
Temp. accomodation (first 5 weeks) - check

In January our house including all B&O will be packed down and shipped in a 20ft container. Next location: North Sydney somewhere (unfortunately not Melbourne, Sydney was our option).

Looking forward to live in AUS with my family for at least next 2½ years, our 3 boys on 5, 10 and 12 are very exited, and look forward to get to a new school and get new friends. And a house with a pool Stick out tongue

I am considering an Avant 55 when moving down there, saw the post from Michael. Dont know what Foxtel is though.

I'm sure you'll love Sydney. Many people here have houses with pools because of the weather. Sydney is warmer than Melb so you'd get more use but the water is nicer in Melb lol.

Foxtel is television supplied by a company from Sky (UK) and Telstra (Aussie telecom company). It is cable TV. But in Australia we call cable TV "pay TV" because you pay for it whereas TV has mainly always been free "free to air".

You can get by extremely well with Aussie free to air. We have quite a number of stations and its wayyyyy better than American stations where you can't get through a whole program properly because of the commercials. We have commercials but it's different here.

I'm sure your kids will love it here. They are of a good age to enjoy it.

If you need anything PM. Happy to help even if it's from Interstate (another state).

Michael was not joking when he mentioned the water Smile

Your check list needs some additions:

[_] choose religion (Union, League, or shock horror Footy or worse Soccer)

[_] find nearest surf beach (mandatory for de-stressing the commute)

[_] learn 'Strien - here is a start:

- Gidday

- struth

- I barrack for the Rabbitos

- I have a schooner

- avagudwikent

Would closely watching Monty Python's Bruces/Australian Philosophy Department sketch help in this regard?

More importantly, will have to change his sons' names to Bruce 1, Bruce 2, and Bruce 3?

Well, I can see I have to learn a few new words. In Denmark we use a lot of irony, wonder how that goes in Australia. And I just figured out "struth" ;-)

However, in order to support B&O and help them earn more money I just bought a few new things that I bring with me to Sydney. 1x Avant 55, 2x H2 headphones and 3x Form2 headphones for the kids.

I do what I can to help B&O Wink

By the way, I noticed that Formula1 takes place in Melbourne, so we are going there at least one time during the next couple of year.

Bloody oath you do ! lol

Crikey is like Strewth

But not many people speak with as much slang now a days but more in rural areas which makes me as mad as a cut snake.

Congrats on your purchases in Sydney. I take it it was from the King St store. Service was good.

Well, actually, it was shipped from Denmark this week, so I have to wait for 2 months before the TV arrives.

But I have a feeling that I will visit the store in Sydney more than once :-)

We are right now packing the suitcases, leaving on Monday from a VERY rainy and windy Denmark with only 2 degrees celcius.

Welcome to Sydney!!!!

I'm sure your family and you will enjoy your time here.

This summer has been great so far ( not unbearably hot). It's great you are arriving in summer, you can enjoy the beaches and the harbour relaxing with good food and company in summer light. Btw if you aren't afraid of heights (it's safe and well managed) try the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb - it's wonderful though expensive Surprise

I been living in Sydney for more than 25 years and have to say the lifestyle here is incredible (yes do is Melbourne). That being said I'd definitely want to take my family to Copenhagen for a visit - last time I was there it was 10 years ago. My regret to this day is not buying the Beolab 5 on that visit!!

Yes Sydney is having a better summer so far. We have only had two days at >40C

Your first priority, given it is Australia Day next week is to (a) get a BBQ (b) practice cooking sausages (c) order a Pavlova from a local cake shop and (d) buy an A2 to make the party rock ... Or get invited to some one else's !

Been in Sydney for 9 days now. Lovely city, and much warmer than in Denmark right now!

But I have noticed that you do get a LOT of rain from time to time, feels like home then.

We are now in an apartment in Chatswood and have rented a house in St. Ives from mid February, our 3 boys cant wait to get their own rooms and a garden (with a pool).

I just have a question. In the house there is some Optus internet connection. Do you know if PUC codes exist for Optus TV boxes?

Thanks.

Hi.

There are no longer any Optus TV Boxes.  Optus no longer sell cable television on their own network and now those channels are available through Foxtel - a different company.

Foxtel boxes have PUC Codes

I do see that Optus offer a product called Fetch TV - I am not sure about PUC for that.

Some houses you may see wall plates with Optus on them - they relate to the now defunct Optus Vision cable TV network

Hmm, I thought I was getting it, but now I just got more confused :-(

I thought of this offer from Optus with is a Home Entertainment bundle (Internet and TV):

https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/bundles/115-entertainment

Cable internet with Unlimited data is 1st priority, TV beside Freeview is 2nd priority.

What would you recommend?

Ah, now it's clearer lol

OK, yeah its the Optus Fetch TV.  Im not sure if that is cable. It will be cable or ADSL 2+

I'll take a look at other offers and let you know.

Thanks so much Yes - thumbs up

In Denmark we mostly just have cable nowadays, with cable in Denmark you get TV and can choose if you also want Internet with the cable. TV normally comes in different predefined packages  so that you will have the same TV channels in all rooms in your house (using the DVB-C tuner in the TV).

You would only need an extra set-top box if you wanted special channels, renting movies or similar.

So much easier Wink - but it does cost quite a lot. We only have a few free to air channels.

As you may have found DVB free to air has in excess of 10 channels (I have lost count of the niche market channels).

In our opinion only 2 are any good (ABC and SBS, two are half good being the -2 of the previous channels). And yes channel 7 is good for 3 weeks of the year when the tennis is in town.

Get ABC's and SBS' iPad apps to play catch up on those channels and as your 2nd TV.

I see this week channel 10 has become the first Aussie "channel" on the Apple TV.

Welcome to Sydney!!!

Hope your family is enjoying it. I live very near the area you're moving to - it's nice area for family.

I believe the Optus Fetch can be either Adsl or cable, houses in St Ives generally would be able to get either Optus ADSL or cable - I'm like 5km away and can get both. Best to just check what's in the house you are renting and call Optus to confirm service availability there.

BTW you should try Bathers Pavilion in Balmoral Beach, white table finer dinning, good food (not necessarily cheap) great views and atmosphere. My favorite restaurant this side of the Harbour bridge. Food is actually quite good by world standards.

Confirming that Monday will see a price rise.

Also confirming they are clearing demo models and aged stock or stock that is proving unpopular/ slow moving.

Discounts are very dependent on how old, how obsolete, how used.

Discount range is from 45% to 10%.

The price increase is unfortunate for us down here, but when I moved down here From Denmark in January the AUS dollar was around 5.2 dkr (Danish Krone), now it's about 4.7 or so. Hence major reason for price increase.

Tough for the import but good for Aussie export.
