Even if there is only one Powerlink, the BS4 based audio engine will route bass from all channels to the most capable speakers. Right?

You're right. The specs don't mention multiple power link but the user guide does.

Funny how they call it a wireless system... Maybe because there are no cables on any of the pictures!

B&O write: "take your streaming experiences to the next level".

Nowadays all journalists seem to have nothing but 'streaming' in their heads.

No wonder they get a set of active speakers mixed up with the streaming devices that float the tech-world today.

On the Beoplay webbisar the price is 10990 SEK.

Heard from my dealer that the Beolab 14 2.1 is end of life and the 4.1 and 5.1 will get a 20% discount

I don't get it, how can you use this in addition to your 3.0 system and use the S8 as rears?

I saw on the manual it looks like you could ideally set it up to be more than 2.1 if you had more speakers?

As long as the S8 has seperate PL-in's for the sub and the satelites, it doesn't matter to the satelites whether they are fronts or surround speakers.

It is just a matter of configuring the PL-port in the Avant - to which they are connected.

And you would have to place them in the back of your room - of course Stick out tongue

With the configuration of the internal speakers as front-left/center/front-right you would then have a 5.1 system.

If this is actually the case I'll be placing an order for the S8 and moving my BL2 to another room along with my existing surrounds

Might be a good idea.

But I am not sure it would be an upgrade - depending on what you use now as surround speakers....

....and what you are expecting from your 5.1 system.

My dealer tells me there are no PL - in on the S8, only RCA.

Anyone that can confirm this?

On the tech specs on the beoplay website, it says

Input
Line in (3.5mm Jack / RCA plugs)

Power Link

Output
2 x speakers

In the Box

So its got PL

1 Subwoofer with cover, 2 Satellites with covers, Mains cable, RJ45 - RCA cable, RCA - 3.5mm Jack cable, 2 speaker cables, 2 table stands, 2 wall brackets, Quick guide

Alright,

Dealer mentioned he had B&O prod responsible in the store the other day, and he said there was no PL.

Must be a misunderstanding.  After looking for specification himself he now confirm that PL indeed is there. Would be very odd othervise.

Case closed

Hi Millemissen

I think it is still very important to add to you point that if you have an Avant or Any Beosystem 4 based TV it does not matter if the S8 has one or two powerlinks. The Audio engine will route the low end from all channels to the most capable speakers in your setup. That will for sure be your S8 when used in combo with the Avant 3.0 speakers.

This fact is so important, it absolutely underlines the wonderful features of the audio engine and makes the S8 an incredible bargain as an upgrade to a stand-alone Avant.

/Kim

Hi kimchr,

never doubted that function - in fact I never mentioned it, because it is obvious.

But if you have a LFE channel (the .1) from a Bluray/DVD or alike, you should really configure the port as a dedicated sub.

The important thing - by the BSys4-based engine - is that you can configure all ports just like you need them, and in case of the S8 use the satelites as surround speakers.

N.B. This configuration only make sense with the Avant, because the Avant has a center channel built in in addition to the right/left speakers.

Of course you could configure the built-in speakers as a center and add external fronts for 'better sound' - if you want/need that.

And of course you can use the S8 with any 5.1 enabled BV.

But my main point was, that you - with the help of the S8 - can create a 5.1 system with the Avant in a cheap and easy way. A system that would be sufficient for a lot of people.

I really don't think they're made aware of what's coming in very much detail, especially not the price.

Certainly as B&O is (finally) lowering their prices, things like this are going to happen.

I am pretty sure that no dealer at that time was aware of the launch of the S8 (or of the price).

The S8 is connected to the BV exactly the same way as the BL14.2 is.

Don't feel cheated - that is how things work nowadays.

You seem to enjoy your setup - just be happy, that you have had it since May.

Dealers didn't know about the launch delay and the price of the BeoPlay S8.

We are always waiting for a new compact audio BeoPlay. Yes - thumbs up

I can tell you as a dealer I had never heard of the S8 in May or for a few months after. However, the BL14 2.1 is still a superior product as it can power additional speakers - one day you might want it to run 4 or 5 speakers.

Also the aluminium rings of the BeoLab 14 speakers in my opinion are much nicer than the black rims of the S8 - so I certainly wouldn't feel cheated.

That being said, the S8 is going to be a great 2.1 system at a fantastic price.

I'm confused to why they would call it S8 instead of say BeoPlay 14? It looks exactly like the 14 and giving it the BeoPlay instead of BeoLab shows this as the pared down 2.1 version (with no option of expansion).

Funny you say that... when the BL14 was released, I thought that product would fit better in the Beoplay range.

I assume that one can have Beovision as the center speaker, thus having a 3.1 setup.

The BeoLab 14 didn't sell well and was too expensive. Good point that Beo move for BeoPlay range.

Beolab 14 owners must be a little disappointed with this... i think its an improvement for B&O. I never saw these as a serious set of loudspeakers from them... more the kind of speakers that lead people to compare Bose to B&O.

Good move i say, thumbs up from me!
