Hello all I have a b & o 3000 turntable - motor doesn't appear to run is there any sense in try ing to restore this or should I look for another turntable?
Welcome to Beoworld !
Always worth restoring.Which of the no less than four different Beogram 3000s do you have ?

Hello and thanks for responding. I have the 3000 with the SP12 stylus curved arm, autoplay button. Not sure that's a definitive description. Hope that helps where can I find the exact model no.?
Must be this one, number at the bottom cover, did you check if the belt is broken or not there.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
I have a BG 1202, I think the BG 3000 is near to similar, you will have to open it to see if the motor is running. the motor pulley will touch the idler wheel and with it, turn the belt pulley, the motor may run but do not engage to the idler wheel. If the motor does run but does not engage to the idler wheel, there are a mechanical failure, if it does not run, you have an electrical failure.
I have a dead one of these in very good cosmetic shape. A friendly local lady gave it to me for nothing. The SP12 it came with looks in decent shape.
I opened mine up and the motor does not turn. I was just going to keep mine for spare parts (for my Beocenter 3500), but perhaps if the motor can be fixed, I could be persuaded to give it to someone who needs a project.
I see the four screws located in the base of the unit - Is that the best way to access the motor? i notice what looks like a bump out access point in the case on the bottom but it doesn't appear to be easily removed. Suggestions would be helpful. thanks
so I took a chance and opened the turn table up to see if I could access the drive motor. I was able to get the motor to turn if I pushed it with the large friction pulley, but it would not run on its own. It seems to me I need anew motor. Thoughts?
The motor is probably just in need of cleaning and lubricating, the same for the rest of the mechanics, switches and relay may also need looking after but if you are not used to make works like this, you should find a capable technician.
If you will work on the BG do it only if disconnected from the power grid
You are possibly correct, my problem is - I could clean the motor bearings etc IF I could get the motor out of the TT. I have opened up,the TT and can see the motor etc but I cannot get the motor out of the chassis to work on it. Any suggestions??
Well folks I did get the motor to rotate on its own. I did this by working some oil onto the motor shaft and the one oilite bearing I could see on the motor output shaft. So now the motor does run but does not appear to change speeds when I rotate the control dial at the lower left hand side of the unit. It seems to me that the change speed operation is mechanical and not electric but I am not not sure. If it is electric by changing the winding taps somehow I did not notice that when I opened the unit up. You can feel and hear linkages moving when you rotate the speed control knob but the platter seems to rotate at the same speed. Thoughts?
The speed change mechanics are not working properly, clean and lubricate it, best take it apart for cleaning, when changing speed the idler wheel must move up or down.
You really should get yourself a manual, available onsite for silver and gold members.
