haha

Soon B&O will release a head unit like the Sony wearable cinema lol.

But seriously, who is their source for the panel for the 85".

I think 85 is too big. Numbers seem right but maybe not.

The 85" is about 2.4 times larger than the 55". So the price isn't that out of place.

Beovision Eclipse gen2 (GX) w/ floorstand, Beolab 14.2, 4 speaker Shape and ATV4/Chromecast.

I have a BV9 now. My viewing distance is 2.7m. The 75" would be an upgrade.

The 85" would be immersive!

Watching an 85 inch screen is just that - "Immersive"...  that's a very good analogy.

I'll never forget sitting and watching "Arthur Christmas" on 3D Blu-Ray on a BV4-85 for the first time. It was a mixture of stupid grin and open mouthed wonder for the first 10 minutes!!

The Avant 85 is superbly priced - even, dare i say, a little underpriced for what you're getting.

I do hope B&O carry on with Televisions...

I would love to have an 85" screen at home but I think it is just a little too much money for me but you never know.

Perhaps a projector would be a good alternative for the nights when 55" is not enough. Just have to find a projector that has DLNA and hdmi out (for sound to my avant).

Why not doing like everyone do : use a atlona 4x2 operated by the Avant to route the sound to the Avant (P. Mute) and the image to the projector?

My image is 3m large for cinemascope movies with a BV8-40, that's immersive, but not 4K ;-)

@michael : a projector with a HDMI out would be more expensive! A HDMI switch is a common thing, not your dreamed videoprojector... And I think that if you have the budget for an Avant, you can add a bit for the switch!

@kimchr : for standard tv, I have an internet box with TV tuner, so I can have tv. But I never watch tv on videoprojector, only movies (bluray+ NAS with Apple TV or a media player) and games (ps3). If you add that the Avant has not HEVC decoder embedded, the 4k source for movies is already external!

I agree. Mainly you want to watch movies on the projector. But occasionally I like to watch a tv show. Award shows and other large productions for example. If I need another bxr for that the value of the integrated Package diminishes.

Money ain't all but I want a nice solution. Not sure what would be best in my apartment (not really designed with rack mounted gear unfortunately). If I had a unit with hdmi out then all would be good. But I'll think of something. Or go for the altona but... Meh!

And they say Americans can't take a joke.

When the Avant 85 is released, even if it is cheaper than that model, the reviewer will still go on about its sky high/only for millionaires B&O price, you mark my words.

Exactly lol.  On Sunrise this morning which is a morning TV show, they were saying how, because of a price increase that an average smokers budget would now be $26,000 AUD on cigarettes.  Millionaires must only be able to smoke.

That's a lotta B&O as an opportunity cost.  You could get 2 fully-loaded Avant 55's for that.

@Michael - had the same challenge. This is what I did, but will re-wire to avoid having to leave the OPPO always on:

Bought the B&O edition of the OPPO 103d (from OPPO uk via B&O dealer). This disc player has one HDMI input at the back (and one on the front) for my cable box, then two HDMI's out - one goes to the Avant and the other to the projector. You can set up the OPPO to send picture on HDMI 1 and only sound on HDMI 2, or picture and sound on both. It comes with Netflix, too. And it has excellent 4k up scaling along with Darbee to further sharpen the image. Costs roughly £500.

Thanks for the link. Interesting new prices.

BV11-46 is now 7.000 € including motorised stand (I paid 7.500 € with the special offer, was 9.000 €) ; BV11-55 is now 8.200 € including motorised stand cheaper than Avant at 8.900 € including motorised stand.

B&O said, before the summer, that the 85" would be available now (and it actually is) and the 75" in December.

But... have we ever seen B&O delivering a promised release in time for the holiday season?

The rumor is that both the 75" and the 85" will use very high quality panels (compared to the 55", which is no match for the 7-55). Looking forward to the first reviews.

Actually Roger, the panel in the 55" Avant is way better than the 7-55 in many ways. The only "better" thing about 7-55 is that it is backlit and not side lit - a thing you cant really do much about if you dont want the thickness of the 7-55. Not impossible that the 85/75"´s are backlit since they are so big. But you should not say that the 55 is not high quality because it is.

@Michael - I did not say it isn't high quality, but that it isn't very high quality. I replaced my 7-55 mkII this weekend with the Avant 55, and the 7-55 is way better unless you feed the Avant with 1080p. So the 7-55 is very high quality, the Avant just high quality :-)

But it just my opinion.

Define quality. 4K!

Technically the 11-46 I owned had a more modern panel than my current 7-55. But in the real world the backlit panel is immeasurably better than anything edge lit I have ever seen or owned, including the Avant.

Yes thats a given. Backlit is more precise in every way and that is the main advantage. And it comes to the cost of thickness unfortunately.

The 7-55 is technically outdated for me but it performs very well thanks to the light system.

My local dealer will receive the Avant 85 today, but it is already sold and will be delivered to a customer. So I will not get a chance to (re)view it, but it would be a nice surprise if the panels on the 75 and 85 are backlit - or improved in some other way.

I know that the price point of the Avant 55 was very important during the development, and that is the reason why the product is what it is.

Replacing a 7-55 w/BL 7-6 on a low floor stand with the Avant 55 was a big surprise visually: The Avant seems to be half the size of the 7-55. And as I have to rotate the TV as much as possible, the new floor stand is simply magical - wonder if this will make the 75" more "usable" for a lot of customers...

Any reviews from those with access to the Avant 85?

What do you mean is what it is? The panel is top notch. Edge lit like almost any other screen except for the fat ones :D.

I like the floor stand but I don't like that it changes position all the time (if I change source or to audio (webradio etc). I want it to stay when I have turned it on - not change all the time. It would be nice to have that possibility. Also to have the possibility to keep the speaker group setting so all speakers wont turn off when I change source. If I start with the source I might want it differently, but jumping around on sources and hear the speakers click - I hate that.

I will hold my judgment of the panel until I have tested today's SW release for the Avant, which is claimed to be the same as the one used by flatpanels.dk in their review.

Floor stand changes position all the time? How did you set it up?

The panel won't change with a software update of the TV itself. The panel is very much fixed. As a pair of connected speakers. It just displays whatever is inputed to it.

I mean, for example if I move the stand to my current place in my sofa and then change source to TV from Apple TV that it might move to the default TV position. (Not sure it does this) BUT when I change to a music source, then it always goes to the audio stand position and it is very annoying because they are very different and it takes time. When the TV is on I dont want it to move around (same with speakers). A possiblity to change that behavior would be awesome.

Did the software come out today? Im at work so I haven't been able to try it out yet. My biggest issue with my Avant is that it dims and brightens the screen very strangely in dim room light situations. I have a new one waiting to replace my current Avant - perhaps it is a hardware issue but I think not..
