Having checked the things you mentioned, I would say the problem is likely in the electronics (somewhere in the PCBs of the deck). It could be a bad solder joint somewhere or some failed components. The easiest components to change are electrolytic capacitors as they are also prone to fail with age. That is not guaranteed that those are the problem here though.

If you have an oscilloscope you could try checking the points where the audio signal travels through the system and verify the signal is present (or missing).

Once you get to this part of the diagnosis where the problem looks to be electrical, it gets a little more difficult to find and repair.

If the deck does play cassettes okay, then you can focus on the record stages of the electronics.
You have the service manual with schematics, right?

I think most dealers will have little idea what a Beocord 9000 is let alone be able to repair it! Maybe someone on here could assist?

No problem. The Beocord 9000 was Bang & Olufsen's top of the line cassette deck when it was in production. Quite expensive. So it isn't  a piece of equipment that you just open up and easily repair without some study or training. B&O made it nice where changing the belts is easy but once you get into an electronic problem, you meet more complex things.

I don't know where you live but I would recommend finding someone that has experience with the Beocord 9000.  A lot of new repair shops may not have any experience with cassette decks at all.

Yes, you and Peter are probably right. However, since you are in the UK, there should be a number of Beoworld tech savvy folks there that could help you out. Or, you can send it to Martin (Dillen) in Denmark. Send him a private message via Beoworld (conversation) and ask him about repair options.

It definitely needs a new belt.
You are aware that the Beocenter does not have  an "eject" function like the Beocord..?
You should be able to just take the cassette with two fingers. UNLESS the tape-heads are out and stuck in the cassette.
Then you'll have to open the Beocenter.

B&O haven't got them - for some reason they make parts like this obsolete about 10 years after production ended, which
is pretty much when new belts will be in highest demand. One wonders.
But I have correct belts for the tapedeck in your Beocenter 9500.
Email me.

Beocord 9000:

Bring it out of standby.
Display lights up?
Motor runs ?
Capstan runs ?
When you insert a tape and press play, the tapehead bridge engages with a quite heavy "klonk" ?
The right tape reel (the take-up reel) rotates a bit ?
The tapehead bridge disengages  ?

Yes, I got your email, thanks. I have also replied to it.

Check solder joints where connectors are soldered to circuitboards.
Put a scope to the signal path and see where the signal gets lost.
Since it is affecting both channels it will have to be a common component or circuit like
f.e. a missing voltage around the Dolby ICs (which wouldn't be a first).
